Wedding photographers eating at reception?

Private User, on April 16, 2014 at 2:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

I haven't been to many weddings, as I am the first of my group to get married. Do you always include your wedding photographer(s) in your food head count? (IE - Do your photographer(s) eat at the wedding?) I'm thinking yes.. but I just wanted to make sure that I do it right.

Yes. We are including our photographer in the food count. My wedding venue also has a slightly discounted rate for vendors. I would check with yours as well.

Ours did. It was stated in our contract that she would need a meal, or that she would need an hour off to eat. We were planning on feeding her anyhow Smiley smile

Yes... sort of. Many photographers (and DJ's and bands, etc) will have a clause in their contract that requires you to feed them. It does NOT, however, have to be the same meal your wedding guests are eating. Some venues have cheaper "vendor meals", or offer discounted rates for vendor meals. Or some vendors are okay with you getting them a box lunch from Panera. But in general, I would plan on feeding your vendors something.

Yes. I would've included my photographer in my headcount even if she didn't require a meal as part of her contract. Our caterer gives us a discounted meal for vendors but I'll probably just let her and my other vendors have access to the same meal as everyone else. The extra few dollars for three people is so negligible that I don't see why it matters all that much.

Yes, we are feeding our all-day vendors a vendor meal through our caterer (cheaper price). That will include the photographers, Djs and venue coordinator.

We fed our photographers, coordinators and DJ. We had the food for the coordinators and the photographers set at their own separate table. This table was actually in a small room off of our reception room. Our DJ ate at his DJ table. I have been to weddings where the vendors actually had seat assignments (with guests), but I preferred to put them seperate so that they could come and go easily. Also, we gave our vendors a different meal. Something that they could easily eat ont he go and come back and forth too. Hope this helps.

So we are feeing photographers, videographers, DJ (only because he is also doing ceremony & cocktail hour), and wedding coordinator

It was about 50% of the cost of an actual guest.

Yes, as most people have stated, you need to feed your vendors. Typically your photographer is with you most of the day, would you want to work that long without eating? That being said, I am feeding my DJ but not my photographer but only because I am only having 2 hours of photography (the ceremony, the formal shots and first dance kind of pictures. I don't want photos of everyone getting ready or of drunken people dancing later on in the evening so that's what works for me)

Yes. Ours had a clause in the contract that if they worked "x" amount of hours, they expected to be fed. The venue provides specific vendor meals.

We are including the officiant, photographer and her assistant, the DJ, and anyone else we might have to hire for clean up/set up in the "food list". We are also going to add the venue manager out of courtesy.

So, have most of you also sent a formal invitation to the photographer? Do you give them a placecard? A place on the seating chart I assume?

You can either include them in your head count or, if you don't want to fork over $60 a plate for them, get them a separate meal (like a sandwich and fries, something like that).

@Eddie427 - Why would you send them a formal invitation? They aren't invited guests. You are paying them to be there and you are only responsible for feeing them. None of my vendors have a seat - they have a place to eat by the catering kitchen. The DJ will just eat by his equipment (he said)

Our caterer gives the vendors the same meal at a 50% reduction in cost

Ok thanks for the clarification. I just started on that line of thinking about feeding them and then was like,..."do I need to give them a seat?"..."wait, do I need to send them an invite??"....haha. but this is good information. I will contact my reception venue to see if they offer the 50% off meals.

Definitely feeding my photog and her assistant, it's a discounted meal though. I also sent her an invite so she could photograph it if she wanted to. I didn't want to forget it on the wedding day Smiley smile

I understand paying the photographer, videographer and dj. We are having a 3 piece jazz band play for the cocktail hour only. One of the members is a friend and was invited to the wedding.Do I have to feed the other two and actually have them stay at the reception? Does the officient usually stay at after the ceremony? (We will be hiring someone-it won't be someone affiliated with a church-our ceremony and reception will be at the same place. Finally, are you saying we also feed the venue manager and the assistants?

    Thanks
