Wedding Party Descriptions

Mallory, on December 31, 2019 at 4:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
So I'm making our wedding website on Zola. Theres a page for the wedding party where the guests could meet the party. I gave my MOH and BM the option to write their own paragraph or I could do it for them. They struggled on what to write so I was going to do it.

But I am now lost on what to put. Lol. What details should be included in the paragraph? How should it lay out? Feel free to give examples.

I'm going to be honest with you, maybe 2 people will read these descriptions. Most people attending your wedding know you well enough to know who your closest friends are. We didn't bother with them.

I included descriptions on mine. I wrote all of them including the ones for my husband. Whether people read them or not, I liked how they look so if you want to include them I say go for it. Below are mine. I changed everyone's names just for privacy reasons. Next to each person's description I also included a photo. I tried to keep all of the descriptions approximately the same length. My friend is using my website as a guideline for making his.

Amber Smith - Mother of the Bride

My mom and I have always been close. She is one of my best friends. We both share a love for Taylor Swift and enjoy going to her concerts together.

Austin Smith - Father of the Bride

My dad and I have always been close as well. My dad has always been there for me when I need him. He is super supportive and protective of me. We share a love of WWE.

Callie Smith - Maid of Honor

Sister of the bride. Callie and I have always been close. Growing up we moved a lot which brought us even closer. We were each other's constant friend. Like most friends, we don't always see eye to eye, but we are always there for one another.

    Brin Smith - Bridesmaid

Sister-in-Law of the bride. I first met Brin four years ago when she started dating my brother. Throughout that time, I have gotten to know her very well. So well in fact, I was the maid of
honor in her wedding. Brin and I agree to disagree on music we both have extremely different tastes.

    Aaron Smith - Bridesman

Brother of the bride. Although Aaron is six years younger than me, he is fiercely protective of me. Aaron loves playing jokes that annoy me at times, but that is what little brothers are for.
When he isn't joking, Aaron and I love to debate even if one of us is obviously wrong.

    Lauren Miller - Bridesmaid

Sister of the groom and friend of the bride. I met Lauren a couple months after Ben and I started dating. Lauren instantly made me feel welcome and we quickly became friends. We hated picking up a dead pig for a pig roast, but were thankful to spend the time together.

    Natalie Green - Bridesmaid

Friend of the bride and groom. I met Natalie and her husband, Ryan shortly after Ben and I started dating. Natalie is always able to make me laugh with her references to Taylor Swift (my
favorite singer) and joking about my fiance's "love" of squirrels.

    Gina Thomas - Flower Girl

Niece of the groom. Haley is one of the most adorable little girls and we are so excited to have her be a part of our special day. She loves Frozen and enjoys going to the zoo to see all of the
    different animals.

    Jenny Thomas - Flower Girl

Niece of the groom. Jenny is one of the most adorable little girls and we are so excited to have her be a part of our special day. She enjoys horseback riding and going to Disney to see all of
    the princesses.

Patricia Thomas - Mother of the Groom

Ben and Patricia are close and she is so proud of the man that he has become. Patricia and Ben share a love for camping and the outdoors. While Ben was in boy scouts, Patricia was his Scout Master.

David Thomas - Father of the Groom

Ben and David are close as well. David is also very proud of Ben. David and Ben both love being outdoors - camping, fishing or just enjoying nature.

    Issac Effron - Best Man

Best friend of the groom. Ben met Issac in third grade when Issac moved from Indiana to New Jersey. Growing up, they were in boy scouts together. Although Issac lives across the country, they have remained close. Issac is Ben’s oldest friend and they consider each other brothers.

    Evan Thomas - Groomsman

Brother of the groom. Although Evan is Ben’s younger brother, they have always joked that Evan is Ben’s not so little brother. They grew up going to boy scouts together and pulling pranks on one another. Ben and Evan share a love of the outdoors.

    Rachel Adams - Groomswoman

Best friend of the groom. Ben met Rachel almost ten years ago at a bonfire hosted by his groomsman, Justin. Since then, Rachel and Ben have been like brother and sister. They always have each other’s backs even when they don’t always agree with the choices the other makes.

    Ryan Green - Groomsman

Friend of the bride and groom. Ben met Ryan in eighth grade when he moved to Hampton. They stayed close friends throughout high school and college. Ryan introduced Ben to the sport of disc golf. Ben and Ryan also enjoy going to Knoebels Amusement Park with Justin’s
family for the Fourth of July.

    Justin Watson - Groomsman

Friend of the bride and groom. Ben met Justin in eighth grade when he moved to Hampton. Throughout Ben’s college years, he would go to bonfires at Justin’s house. Ben has also been going with Justin’s family to Knoebels Amusement Park for the past five years for the Fourth of July.

    Chris Thomas - Ring Bearer

Nephew of the groom. Chris is the cutest little boy. We are so excited to have him in our wedding and I cannot wait to see him in his little tux. He is full of energy and loves dinosaurs.

    Eli Thomas - Usher

Nephew of the groom. Eli is a smart and handsome young man. We are so excited to have him be a part of our wedding. He is a great big brother and loves reading.

Keep it simple. Write about how you know them and maybe a fun memory you share... and leave it at that. Otherwise it gets a little corny and starts sounding like a dating ad.... “she enjoys painting landscapes, playing with her cats and taking long walks on the beach”. Lol!

Personally, I’d skip it altogether and simply write your bridal parties names. But that’s just me 😉

We just didn’t use that page of the wedding website. Our opinion is that It’s not important to us or the guests and we wanted our website to solely include wedding information they will need and not clutter it.

Most people likely won't read a long description, so I'd skip those altogether or make them really brief

I had a bridesmaid flip out on me saying she was ranked on my website, plus only a couple people even looked at my website. Even at the wedding no one seemed to care how we knew the people in our wedding party. I wouldn’t even worry about it.

I only write a cute description for the MOH and Best Man.

MOH says "Haley's adventure buddy, concert cohort, Vampire Diaries partner, and best friend."

Best Man says "Peter's best friend since the 2nd grade, dance party extraordinaire, and karaoke master."

The other bm and gm I just wrote "haley's cousin" "peter's longtime friend" or however we know them.

We wrote all of ours for our bridesmaids & groomsmen. They basically said "I've known Jane Smith for X years. We met at X. I'm so excited to share our wedding day with them." or something similar.
