Newly Engaged here and so excited! However not even 20 minutes after by boyfriend's proposal I was getting asked "Did you set a date yet!?" Newly Engaged here and so excited! However not even 20 minutes after by boyfriend's proposal I was getting asked "Did you set a date yet!?" I am already feeling the pressure of a grand wedding and we just can not afford that. Not having a wedding makes me feel sad but I don't want to go into debt for a day that really ends up being all about pleasing the guests. I would like to have have an event that all our friends and family can come to. So I was hoping do something under $4k. I am wondering if I should still try and squeeze out a REAL wedding or make it more of a large casual summer/fall party?

I know there are a lot of "Wedding on a Budget" things online but most of the time those "small budgets" are around $10k.

Totally doable and if you do your research you can find a lot of items on sale or at a discounted price. And start some DIY projects and include your friends and family in on your projects. Congrats on your engagement it's all so exciting. Please don't stress your self.

I agree totally do-able. Ours is more 7K with honeymoon but if I needed it lower I could. We are splurging on a few items since I was able to raise an extra 1,500 so since that I was able to raise the budget. But we haven't gotten the number of guests in yet on who is coming since that's not time so we might spend less since I figure not all my guests are going to show. (We have already had a few say they may not make it already) so.

We got the question right away as well. It's like how you will more than likely be asked when you're going to have kids at your wedding.

I'm another bride on a budget (between 3-4k, at most) and it's all about looking at all the options, grabbing sales, and saying yes when people offer to help (which was hard for me at first, until FH and I sat down and made a budget). Also, DIY is your friend!

We did a destination wedding and got a very nice wedding for much less than we would have been able to afford if we had done something locally.

We actually set the date and budget before we were "officially" engaged so it was easy to answer those questions. But you should have the wedding you want/can afford, FH and I also decided that we would not go into debt for our wedding (except that I am paying for my dress separately because I don't want a smaller budget just to accommodate my dress)

Im in the same boat, engaged on 12/6 and 2 seconds after i was asked "so when's the big day?" at first we were like no wedding, but i have been married before and i never got my wedding. actually, i never even got a dress...all i got was a justice of the peace ceremony on a random day. fiance' felt bad so he said plan a wedding, do everything we can afford to make it your dream. so we are going to the justice of the peace in may, and have our ceremony/reception celebration in 2016 sometime...maybe even later. we want a big party but we are in no hurry

What you really need to get married is: a wedding license, an officiant, a bride, groom, and two witnesses-- everything else is just icing on the cake. You know your budget already. Now, prioritize what you want, and add it in as you can afford it. Do you have a huge, non-negotiable guest list? Well, there goes the sit-down 6 course meal. Have you always wanted the fancy dress (that was my big wish), then you may have to skimp on flowers. It can be done-- just focus on what you and your groom *really want* and don't listen to people who say you 'have to have'

    Save the dates

    Flowers

    Centerpieces

    Alcohol

    a huge wedding party

    a sit down meal

    a spectacular venue

    Save the dates

    chair decorations

I promise-- not one of those things will make you any more married at the end of the day.
