when we picked the venue we were so excited that we picked father day and didn't even realize it (oopsss) i liked another day first but they were already taken so I though 06/17/18 was also a cool date. later on we realized it was fathers day... its a 5pm ceremony on a Sunday so we figured it...

i liked another day first but they were already taken so I though 06/17/18 was also a cool date. later on we realized it was fathers day... its a 5pm ceremony on a Sunday so we figured it wouldn't be too bad and my dad feels like on fathers day hes getting a cool present: a son Smiley smile

we were thinking or maybe giving gifts or something for the dads who would be there but we didn't want something too expensive .. and we didn't know if that would be tacky to do?

My daughters graduation was on Mother's Day and so many people there were talking about why anyone would have it on that day. Myself I am a mom and it wasn't that big of a deal.

My wedding is July 2nd so it's the weekend before July 4th and I had several people decline because they will be out of town for that weekend for the holiday since a lot of them are off on the 3rd and 4th. No biggie to me that is their choice.

Honestly, you're going to have fewer people come anyway if it's a Sunday evening. This would be more a determining factor for me as a guest than the holiday.

Since your guests would know ahead of time I do not see this being an issue for most people. For example this year me and my dad are going to dinner so I made reservations on Sunday at 5pm. If I had a wedding to go to I would have taken him to dinner on Saturday instead. No big deal to plan accordingly if you know in advance.

This post made me realize our wedding is the Saturday before Father's Day! Oops! We are having a small wedding with our families and including all the kids. We had planned on doing a casual brunch Sunday after the wedding as it's a DW in Maine and everyone will be staying in cabins on the property. I think now we'll just do a special thanks to the fathers!

    I agree with @TheeOne.

I don't see what the issue is if you give people plenty of notice, and I'm sure they don't let a holiday dictate when they get to celebrate their fathers.

I went to a wedding years ago on Mother's Day. She had forgotten about the date. Disneyland gave them a good rate. The MC just said, "Happy Mother's Day to all mothers." That was fine.

with the whole Sunday thing, its better for my FH and my family for a Sunday, which is why we chose Sunday.

Yeah, the whole "people will decline a Sunday" is bunk. We're having a late Sunday night wedding, and 81 out of 86 people are coming.

I'd be okay with it. I don't need a day to celebrate my dad. Heck I've gone Fathers Days without seeing him simply because of scheduling. Not the end of the world.

    I wouldn't do it.

Don't forget it's graduation weekend too. Adding a wedding to Dad/Grad weekend would up your declines IMO.

I would go - just like I would go to one on Mother's Day.

ETA: AK serves a good point with graduations - that may sway people one way because children and such, Father's Day comes every year while graduations generally only come once

The fact that it is Father's Day wouldn't be a factor to me.

I would probably RSVP no because my dad really enjoys our time together on Father's Day but only you know your guests.
