wedding on family members birthday

Amy, on July 21, 2009 at 10:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Our wedding in on my FH's sister's birthday. We made sure that she was okay with this, and she is thrilled. My dilemma is this...how do I make it a special day for her as well? We are having a cake for her, as well as our wedding cake. We are also having happy birthday played at the reception. All of this is a surprise, but they are such little things. I am trying to think of something extra special for her. I don't want her to feel like we are just ignoring the fact that it is her birthday. Any suggestions?

We almost had our wedding on a family birthday and the things you're planning are what I would have done. It sounds good to me, especially since you cleared it with her.

I think the cake with everyone singing happy birthday should be enough. She most likely isnt expecting any attention to be on her so even that bit will be a grand surprise. I would maybe her her some nice gift as a birtday/thank you (if she has been a big help) gift and maybe make a small speach after the cake/happy birthday song and present her with the gift then. Oh, and maybe a brother/sister dance after that?

I agree with what everyone else has said-- I think what you are doing is enough with the cake and everything and it is really sweet that you thought to do that for her

Thank you everyone! CelticChick, I really like the idea of a brother/sister dance. I'll have to talk to my FH about it because he hates to dance. I think if I just tell him he doesn't have a choice...lol...he'll do it. Great idea...thanks!

I thnk what you are doing is enough, but you could present her with a birthday gift too...

You get a birthday every year but marriage comes once in a lifetime. Tell them to suck it up :-)

You can put a special birthday message in your programs...I had a bride who wished someone a happy anniversary in hers. Best of luck! :o)

You made sure his sister was OK with you being married on the same day as her bday?! I mean in all honestly with all the worries in the world if she was the little bit upset I would tell her to go fly a kite! It's your special day and what you're doing for his sister on your wedding day is more than enough. How old is she btw?

My wedding was on my husbands sister in laws birthday. We got her a gift and gave it to her at the reception after we said a birthday wish and sung happy birthday to her on the pa system in front of everyone.
