Wedding on a Monday?

FutureMrsR-M, on March 30, 2018 at 4:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
Is scheduling a wedding on a Monday totally weird? We originally thought about having the wedding on Thanksgiving but now we are tossing around other ideas. A significant number of guests from both the US and Mexico would have to fly just because everyone is so spread out (no matter where we had it), and we want to try and minimize the number of days people would have to take off. We were thinking that having the wedding the Monday before Thanksgiving could let people travel at their leisure over the weekend, and they would only miss two days of work. Americans could easily be back home for traditional Thanksgiving and Mexicans could go back to work for the rest of the week. (We are trying to have the wedding around Thanksgiving becuase I’ll hopefully be starting a new teaching position after grad school and won’t be able to take many vacations). Also, the VIPs are okay with whatever day, but we also know that my sisters future in laws are VERY big on their Thanksgiving traditions. Does this sound reasonable to have a Monday wedding or is it super weird/ a total no go?

A lot of people aren’t able to take extra time off surrounding major holidays. Personally, I would never attend a Monday wedding where I needed to travel 3 days before a big holiday.

This sounds like it would be really inconvenient for your guests. Travel prices go wayyy up the week of Thanksgiving, and people anyway have their own family plans for the holiday.

Yeah, now that I wrote it all out, it sounds like a bad idea. Definitely not going to do it.

I think you'll find flights to be very expensive that week. With your wedding on Monday, that will leave people flying home Tuesday or Wednesday, which are PEAK travel days for the holiday. I think having a Saturday is most convenient for your guests that have to travel long distances.

I wouldn’t want to travel that week and people might not be able to take off extra time around a holiday

In theory, I would be okay with it, but my job is also very strict about vacation time around holidays, so it might be difficult.

We don't have thanksgiving here but I know I would struggle taking off the few days before the Christmas break which I guess is pretty similar? There's just too much to get done as well as other staff already potentially requesting time off.

If your VIPs are okay then I think it's fine, but be prepared for a much higher decline rate between holiday plans, not being able to get time off and increased flight prices

Thanksgiving is a horrible time to travel. Everything is extra expensive.

What about a summer wedding to avoid the start of the school year?

It is way too expensive to travel that week. Can you wait until the following summer? Maybe Memorial Day or Labor Day weekends so people have an extra day off since most will be traveling?

My friends had a wedding the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it had a high turn out. But most people were within driving distance...I’d think your family flying in might be inconvenienced with higher flight fares ect

Think about the additional traffic your guests will have to travel through and prices will most likely be inflated as well since it's a holiday

We're getting married on a Monday which is the week before thanksgiving. It is veterans day observed in the US so it is a work holiday for the majority of the guests. It also helps that most of the guests are local and we plan on having a slightly earlier timeframe so that people can head home at a reasonable time and not miss out on the festivities.

Personally my job has blackout dates for the week of thanksgiving. My best friend is getting married after thanksgiving and I think that if you are interested in days that week that Saturday after thanksgiving would be better than before hand

The veterans day Monday might be cheaper (some pwople will alreasy have off). Even better...that Sunday. I'm having my wedding on that Sunday Nov 11 (this year) many of my guest will have the next day off. I get the Saturday wedding feel at a much cheaper rate.

Nothing wrong with a Monday wedding (mine is a Tuesday)
But I agree with the travel expenses around that holiday
