Wedding march substitute?

Megan, on August 15, 2016 at 1:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Any suggestions for a substitute to the wedding march? (No singing and not something beaty) when I hear the wedding march I automatically start singing the "fat and wide" version. And I just don't really like it. Any suggestions?

I've always been a fan of the wedding that did the Imperial March from Star Wars but slowed it down so it sounded classical. It's great seeing the looks on the guests as they figured out what it was.

But that's assuming you're nerds with a sense of humor your family wouldn't mind.

Pachebal's Canon in D is light, classic, and very wedding.

If you want something a bit more stately, how about Jeremiah Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary? I really like this song, but Canon in D won out.

LOL @CatBones - we're actually doing the Imperial March to enter the reception. I'll have to see if can fin the other version, though!

Hi Megan! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters!

People are using whatever song they want now for the processional! In fact, I'm not sure if I've had any friends who used the wedding march! WW has a great list of songs to browse through for inspiration: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-songs/bride-entrance-music

Are you having live music? If so they should be able to accommodate any song you'd like. If you have a fav they can slow it down and play it in the right style (I've played about 100 wedding and have done this many times). Other favs are: Canon in D, Bach Air on the G string, unchained melody, trumpet voluntary (Purcell)- here's a great resource too: https://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/wedding-tips-and-ideas/wedding-songs/processional.htm

My daughter's MIL and I are walking down to theme from "Somewhere in Time". Her bridesmaids and she will be marching to Canon in D.

There are so many. choose a song that's meaningful to you. if you want something that still kind of resembles a wedding march, check out the vitamin string quartet. not sure what kind of music you listen to, but they have a cool version of arcade fire's ready to start.

also, i think the wedding song by the yeah yeah yeahs is kind of amazing. Smiley smile

I really like Pachelbel's Cannon. It's also on the Hallmark Wedding music CD.

Pachebal's Canon in D is a very beautiful song. That's what I'll be walking down to.
