Wedding kissing games

R, on January 19, 2015 at 2:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 35

Are you doing any games encourage the bride and groom to smooch during the wedding reception? I want to do something fun instead of just kissing every time someone starts clinking their champagne flute, but not sure what. At my cousins wedding someone had to howl loudly like a wolf. It was super fun, but not sure how it would go over with my crowd... Anyone know any unique and fun games? Thanks!

I did that a guest would have to karaoke a song with the word kiss in the title. Yep, no one did (meaning we got to kiss when we wanted, not on demand).

If anyone clinks a glass at my reception, I will assume they are not deft enough to hold on to their own glass, and keep dropping it.

This is a totally serious question - what is the appeal of this? Why do you want to do it?

Ugh...how annoying. Definitely wont be playing any, but if that damn glass clinking comes up, we only usualy have to deal with it for the first hour or two of the reception

Like you guys I basically don't want to have to kiss EVERY time someone clinks their glass and am looking to limit on demand kissing. Not that I don't want to kiss FH, but don't want to be doing it constantly and in demand.

I've honestly never seen it at any wedding I've ever attended, so I'm pretty sure no one would ever miss it. I only heard about it on an episode of 4 Weddings.

You could just ignore any glass clinking and not announce anything else.

I actually found this on a thread from 2011 on WW. It's called the Hershey's Kisses Kissing Game it even has a poem!!!

Please no tinkling of glasses or bells rung out loud.

We'd prefer something different form this lovley crowd.

We've fill a box with Hershey chocolates and set it aside.

Near the Head Table at which sit the Groom and the Bride.

If it's a kiss that you're after come forward and stand,

Now roll up you sleeve and dig in with your hand.

Reach down deep and retrieve a Kiss of GOLD,

A smooch between the Bride and Groom you'll behold.

But if you pull out a SILVER Kiss in your quest,

Then you'll be required to kiss another guest!!!

I'm toy with doing this at our wedding, extra chocolate for the guests and no clinking it's win-win!!

Can someone answer why anyone would ever want to do it in the first place?? So curious.

Like m, I'd never heard of this until WW. I won't be doing it! But if it's something your crowd will want to do and expect at the reception, maybe do something like Theresa tried?

@S.W that is such a cool idea!! I may have to steal that... I dont mind kissing my FH hundreds of time during the night... But do i want to be doing it on demand? NO i want to kiss my FH when i please ahaha... I have seen too many couples at weddings end up rolling their eyes after the 50th kiss because it gets annoying to them haha .

We did a kiss for a kiss. The guests had to come up and kiss in front of the head table and then we would kiss.

At another wedding I went, people had to come up and sing a song with the word love in it, into the microphone. They were a very musical family and had a lot of fun with that.

Exactly. If there is no "game" set up my crowd will expect a kiss at every clink which is about every 5 minutes so looking to avoid that. I like the Hershey kiss idea.

I guess I'll never find out why this is a thing. I'm really not trying to be rude, guys. Is it a tradition? Religious? Cultural? Does it signify something?

    Search the forums for this.

There's the Hershey Kissing game, kissing menus (google), having people demonstrate (with a partner) the kiss and you copy them with your husband. We decided since we love board games to make people roll a D20 die (it has 20 faces) and each number meant something different.

M, I have NO IDEA where this started. Maybe from the thought that a marriage had to be consumated? It's dumb, but in my area all weddings have this as part of it. If you don't have a game, people will constantly clink their glasses.

@m I have no clue why it's a thing, no idea where it came from and why it started being a thing I just know I dislike clinking and having a guest have to get up from their chair to get us to kiss means we wont be kissing ever 30 seconds.

@ Alicia go a head and still it! I stole it from someone else!!!

I've seen kiss for kiss, making guests sing a song, or read an inside joke between the bride and groom to the guests, and a bride and groom refuse to kiss on demand all with varying degress of success.

Google search and found an article.... no clue if it's acurate but it does make some sense.....I must admit I giggled a little when I read the preable stating all brides are so different what is an absolute must for some is an absolute no for others.

I'm so so so glad this is not a part of my life or our crowd. It seems to serve zero purpose, has no basis in tradition, any level of significance.... or anything.

I like the glass clinking so we're gonna keep it. I just don't see anyone wanting to put themselves on the spot. I was at a wedding where you had to come up and tell a story to get them to kiss and it was awkward because the stories were all inside jokes and it took way too long.

Interesting article that still didn't answer the question... if anyone clinks their glass we're just going to flat out ignore them, this is the silliest thing I have EVER seen, and that includes the groom diving up your skirt in public in a bastardized version of ensuring that you did indeed consummate your marriage.
