Wedding Jewerly. Am I over-accessorizing? Opinions Please. Pictures

Rhonda, on October 9, 2015 at 8:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

The top piece is a hair vine I want to wear at the top of the back of my hair style, which will be a curled side look. The necklace is one of those that hangs in the back, I forget what they call them. Then the bracelet and earrings. Is it too much? My gown is quite simple. Definitely not a lot of bling on it. It is a strapless gown. I love all the pieces. My thoughts were that the pieces are not statement jewelry, they are rather dainty pieces. But still ... I don't want to over accessorize too much. Thoughts? I'm in love with my necklace so that is a non-negotiable, that is staying. Should the hair vine go? Decisions, decisions.

Definitely need a picture of the dress, too. If it's plain, I say go for it. If it has any type of embellishments on it, I say lose the necklace but keep everything else.

First of all, I love Back Drop bridal necklaces -- as in ADORE them. Many of your guests will be looking at your back during the ceremony, so your clear stoned, glittering piece will get a lot a show time. Your pieces don't have large stones and they aren't brightly colored (I remember one bride who had all of her BMs in fuchsia gowns and HUGE fuchsia tear drop earrings surrounded by clear stones. There is no way I would have purchased those earrings at the jewelry counter, but when I saw them on her BMs when they were all made up, styled, and in their gowns, I loved the look -- just gorgeous).

When you say you've selected a "simple" wedding gown, I'm assuming you mean you purchased a gown that lets the fabric do the talking. I'm guessing it's either devoid of beading and sequins or it doesn't have much in terms of additional sparkle. Just looking at those pieces, I'd say you made a good choice. If you can add a pic of the gown, you'll probably get lots of approval on your jewelry choices. I'm taking you at your word that you have a simple gown with minimal bling. I think your jewelry choices are exquisite.

Hey all, thanks for the advice/opinions thus far. I don't have a good photo of me in my dress Smiley sad but I will (shamefully) post what I do have and a picture of the model wearing the dress to get a better idea ... the one with me in it UGH I woke up in the a.m., to try it on one day hair a frizzy mess, the dress needs to be pressed and it is a little big, it was taken over a month ago, I have since bought the right cups to fill it out and it is currently being steam pressed. Hope this helps.

Oh, and I don't care if the model in the picture didn't go with a necklace. I'm loving the necklace and think I can certainly get away with it. The back of the dress is all crystal buttons going down the train. So the crystals in the necklace just go. Edited to add that I am questioning the hair vine with the necklace as in too many accessories?

Yeah, I think the hair piece and the necklace are too much. I was going to tell you to go with a simpler necklace, but since you love it, maybe a simpler head piece? All your jewellery match but the head piece.

Gorgeous dress btw, love the cut!

I think you need to eliminate either the necklace or the hairpiece. There's already a bit of beading on the dress, and the three together seem like just a little too much...

I dont think that is too much bling at all. They are all like you said dainty pieces. Its hard to tell in the pic but does the head piece match the rest of it? Have you put it all together with the dress for a mock run it might give you a better idea then looking them at you table (just put you hair in a simple version of what you want) Also are you wearing a veil?

I feel like I am having trouble deciding, because I don't know what it all looks like together. But if you really love the necklace, I might agree with the others that the headpiece may be tipping the scale to too much accessories. BUT, again, without seeing it together I don't really know.

I know, I wish I had a pic with it all together. The hairpiece may just be a little too much. Yes, I am wearing a very simple veil.

Do you have the hair inspiration too?

I thought I was over accessorizing with hair piece, veil, earrings and bracelet, but my hair stylist did a great job of kind of weaving my head piece in to tone down the drama of it.

@Elyse, I am thinking the same exact thing. I did a hair trial (without the hair vine, I found the vine after the trial), and the way she did my hair was curly and to the side, so I could see that the hair could be weaved into that piece as you said, toning the drama of it down like you said. Something to think about.

If you keep the hair and necklace, maybe go with a stud earring. You can probably buy a relatively cheap pair and bring both with you and make a game time decision.

I vote necklace instead of hair piece. Earrings and bracelets are fine.

I love the jewelry and the dress. So pretty but I think its kind of a "rule" not to wear both earrings and a necklace. It makes it a little too busy. I would go without either the necklace or earrings. You'll look beautiful no matter what though!
