So I have called my wedding off. Don't be sad for me it's probably the best decision I've made in a long time. I honestly couldn't be more happier. So here I my questions what's the right way to go about letting vendors know and asking for the deposit back? Yes I know I did sign contracts but my thinking is it never hurt to ask. Plus my date isn't until April so it still enough time for them to fill other bookings. Any suggestions?

I make wedding cakes, and in my contract, it clearly states that the deposit is non refundable. HOWEVER, as long as there is plenty of advance notice given, I will give them credit in the amount they paid to go towards any other cake for any other occasion. This can be for another wedding cake, birthday cake, etc. so, if the vendor won't return the money, I would definitely ask if they could give you credit towards their services for another event. I'm sure that many will be happy to oblige!

    Hi Tiffany,

I'm going through this now - can you give an update? Am I completely doomed out of 100% of my deposits ($20K)?

Having same issue with venue cancellation letter has been sent & reply received was apologies, booking info & T&Cs which states desposit is non refundable but if it’s non refundable how is is used toward & comes off your your total bill. Also the co-ordinate iv been dealing with didn’t respond to my request it was someone else & also stated my name was not printed on the letter & asking for corrections I’m how does she know I wrote it then & guess what no answer when explained where my details were included & to clarify what she mean . No reply as yet . I understand if u cancel like a month or less b4 wedding but 5-6 months is more than sufficient notice. & As for keeping 40-100% if cancelled that amount must be proven how it has affected them financially. I booked 3 months ago & I Hav seen the co-ordinator once & spoken twice on the phone . My first booking form sent to me by co-ordinaries had things added I didn’t even ask for & was more than the original quote. Consumer law in nsw states you Hav the right to cancel a service provider For what ever reason . @ this stage the venue hasn’t even started providing the services booked as booking is not final until 4 weeks prior to event . So how they constitute there ridiculous cancellation amounts beats me . Wedding venues make a killing esp now gay marriage laws Have come in in Sydney alone venues jus bout everywhere are booked til December.
