Wedding Invitations

Macy, on July 28, 2022 at 6:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

It's time for me to order invites! I have gotten so many proofs from Minted because I am being too picky lol one last thing I noticed is that I did not spell out the state. Is this absolutely necessary? I spelled out STREET but left it at OH for my state. I have looked up a ton of samples and some have the state spelled out and some don't.

Does this really matter? I hate having to send in yet another proof but if it is absolutely the right way to do things, I totally will! Help! :-)

    I wouldn’t spell out the state or street. I think OH is fine and so is St. It’s not necessary at all. Don’t sweat the little details, it’ll be okay.

    Thank you!! I also just read it is rude to put registry details on the invite? Is that also something not to worry about? How will people know where I'm registered? All of these rules are hard to keep up with lol

    Lol - no, I’d say leave the information off about the registry. We created a wedding website. There’s one on here and others in which you can make your own background and add your information about the registry. Depending on how you’re doing RSVPs, you can have them RSVP on the wedding website as well.

    Alright, thanks! I do have a part that says "For more information, please visit our wedding website" with the URL, which has registry info on it. So I could take off the registry info on the back of the invite.

    Yes, absolutely. Also, what else is on the back? I’d prob steer away from using the back as most people might not read it unless you have an indicator to check the back for more.

    I have hotel accommodations on the back, our wedding website and where the location will be if inclement weather should occur (our ceremony is outside). I was going to do a separate card, but it was an extra $400! I will make sure they know to look on the back!!

    What about a brochure type invitations? I know you might not want to do another proof, but it might be beneficial. How are you going to work around them looking on the back?

    Hi there! I agree with Imani I don't think you have spell out the state. As far as the registry info I d leave that off of the wedding invitation. Instead if you have a website it can be put there. I m not sure if this is common everywhere but in my family and social circle the wedding registry is more commonly used for shower gifts so the info. is often included in the Bridal shower invite. Best of luck to you choosing your invites!

    I’ve already chosen the design I want, it’s just the wording I keep changing! I’m going to research ways to make sure people flip it to the back. Me personally, I always look on the back of things but I know not everyone does!

    Ohh gotcha! Yeah, there was a forum last week regarding guest reading the back. I’ll try to find it and link it here for reference.

    I literally just ordered my invites yesterday and we changed our original wording from this to;

    "For more information, including registries and FAQs, please visit our wedding website" followed by the URL.

    We did this simply because we've had people ask us specifically if we are registered, even though we put our website on the save the dates. This way there was no confusion.

    I think you're fine to leave it as "OH" instead of spelling out "Ohio," but I'd just include the URL to your website rather than registry info. If there's info on the back of the card, you could include something on the bottom of the front saying "Please see reverse side for more information" to get people to look. There was a thread about a week ago about people not looking at the reverse side of a card. Any instructions you can give people are always helpful.

    Our website has everything spelled out for everyone, but I decided to go with an additional details card since we've had PLENTY of people call and ask about things that are already on the website. I figured the additional card would call attention to the info, and it points to the website as well if people need more info as well.
