How early is too early to start ordering wedding invitations/response cards and such?

What needs to be included in the wedding invitations besides invite, response card/envelope?

I'm like drawing a complete blank, I do have some time but I'm a crazy planner and don't want to feel like I'm rushing come later this year/early next year as i'll be also starting my final 2 quarters (internship) of my MSW program >.< .. 2020 is turning into a crazy year and its not even here yet

Well I believe the average is 6-8 weeks for a local wedding and about 12 weeks for a destination wedding. Although those are just suggestions, I would recommend not going too early because some people will forget to RSVP or can’t give you a response that far out.

I wouldn’t order more than a few months before the wedding date in case of something unexpected, like venue issues. I can understand wanting to get a jump on things knowing you’ll be pretty busy, but I don’t think invitations are a good thing to do too early. As far as what to include, some people add details cards with info about hotel room blocks, transportation, etc, while others have everything (including rsvp) on their wedding website instead so it’s really up to you if you feel like you need anything more than just the invite. We’re getting married on 9/12/2020, I plan to send invites Mid-July, I’ll probably order invites in May. We’ll have everything booked, I just have learned to always expect the unexpected and I’d hate to be out the money if something did happen.

We are sending our invites in the beginning of August - however we ordered our invites about 2 weeks ago. Our envelopes will be addressed so we will not need to address them, but they are taking longer than I expected at the printer.

My wedding is this July. We sent out invites in April, but I actually decided to take advantage of Cyber Monday and ordered them then. They just sat in the box for a few months. They have the basic information: who, what, where, and when. "Together with their families, Hannah Middle Last and Fiance Middle Last request the honor of your presence at their wedding on July 20, 2019 and Venue name and address at Time. Reception to follow." RSVP card had a line for names, accepts/declines and meal choice. There are usually preset templates on the websites that you can adjust, but you don't have to start from scratch. I also kept other people's wedding invites for weddings we had recently attended so I could see their wording examples. I used Ann's Bridal Bargains, and they were great. I got 100 invitations with reply cards and return address preprinted on the outer envelopes for $115. They also do address printing, but we opted to save on that. Plus guest list could change since we were so far out.

Most people would say 6-8 weeks for local and 12 weeks for a destination wedding. But it also depends on your crowd.

For out December wedding we're sending invited out at the end of July. And we expect RSVPs back by mid-October. Early yes, but many of our vendors start wanting counts at the beginning of November. Plus those 2 extra weeks will give us time to track down procrastinators.

The reason for sending out invitations so early is because over half of our guest list is traveling, have kids, or in the military. So the sooner the better works for them.

And our invitations are quite minimal: flat invitation with the website and a RSVP card to send back.
