Wedding invitation wording

MrsRies&Love, on April 27, 2017 at 8:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I am trying to figure out the best wording for our weddings, without the mentioning of our parents' names. So far, this is what I have come up with:

"Together with their families

Jordan and Adam

invite you to their wedding celebration"

We are not having a religious wedding, but I am seeing that normal etiquette has different wording. I would like to include our middle names, but I am taking his last name. So as far as etiquette is concerned, should I say, "Jordan Elizabeth and Adam Joseph Ries", or since my parents' last names are not included, do I need to include mine? I don't want to elude that I'm keeping my last name (because I'm not haha).

What sounds best? Any other suggestions would be really helpful! Thank you! Smiley smile

We did together with their families kristen blank and Kyle blank invite you to their wedding celebration. Blank being our middle names. We didn't use our last names. I've seen multiple different ways and don't think any are wrong, it's your preference. We liked just our first and middle names.

Our invitation wording left off our parents names while being fun and silly (the vibe we're going for on our wedding day.)

"Together with their parents, bride and groom invite you to their wedding in the woods for a whimsically reverent celebration of love.

Ceremony followed by dinner, drinks, and awkward but enthusiastic dancing."

I'm not keeping my last name, and I wrote our first and last names only. Groom doesn't have a middle.

I don't think anyone will expect you to keep your last name if it's on the invitation

Put the full name on the invitation. Weddings are the last formal thing left in the 21st Century.

We used first, middle and last names at the time of the invitation (so my maiden name). I'm changing my name, but I don't think there's any implication that I'm not just because my invitation has my current last name.

Just do whatever you like best!

We just put our first names. Of course, my invite starts off with "Free Booze!" Both sets of parents are deceased (we're an older couple), but I really like "together with their families" if applicable. We never use our middle names and my invite is totally informal (we decided to go for laughs over formality) but that's a totally subjective decision.

I would never assume someone is keeping their last name just because it was on the invitation. I wouldn't think about it at all, to b honest.

Our invites began with "Together with their families" and I used my first, middle and last name even though I am taking my FH's last name after the wedding. I think I've only seen a first and middle name used if the invitation specifically states the parents names, ie Joseph and Mary Smith request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Katherine Elizabeth to James Robert Johnson...

If you don't have the bride's parents names on the invite, you should use your last name if you use his. It has nothing to do with what name you will be using after the wedding.

A lot of people only put first names now, but remember if you are inviting your old college roommate they might not be sure which Jordan in their life you are. If you know for sure there won't be a question about identity, just use first names only.

Unless you are already married you should put your maiden name on the invitation.

That's a good idea. I think I will add our first and middle names on the invitation. Thanks for all of your suggestions!
