Wedding Invitation Wording, Divorced, Deceased, and Remarried

Cynthia, on February 8, 2019 at 11:05 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Hello WeddingWire Forum,

This is my first post!

I am struggling to figure out how how to word my wedding invitations for a formal event with a Catholic religious ceremony. My parents were divorced before my mother passed away 2 years ago and I want to include her name on the invitation card with i.e. "daughter of the late bride's mother". Neither of my parents remarried. However, I don't want to put "and" between my parents names because they didn't get along. Additionally, the groom's parents are both divorced and remarried, but we will only include his biological parents on the invite. We are ALL contributing to the wedding, but my dad is primarily contributing. I know it's getting wordy- I would prefer suggestions on which names to eliminate from the invite over "bride and groom will host with their families".

Thank-you,

Cyn

In regards to the "And" you will always be the daughter of both and your FH the son of both the fil and mil...so the and is correct.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Yours is the closest to what I'm likely going to go with:

    Doctor my dad

Requests the honour of your presence at the marriage of (we're catholic)

    me

daughter of the late doctor my mom

    to

    FH

    son of MIL

    and FIL

Don't use "and" between the names of unmarried people, it indicates marriage. Instead, list the names on different rows

    Mom's name
    Dad's name

    MIL (and husband)
    (Wife and) FIL

Since listing names in this fashion looks too much like a playbill, I suggest going with

    "together with their families"
    Bride & groom
    Invite you to their wedding

    Or my personal favorite,

The honor of your presence is requested at the wedding of
    Bride & groom

Use a program at the actual wedding to list parents' names instead.
