Wedding insurance uk - Coronavirus / Covid-19?

Marie, on June 21, 2020 at 10:11 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone is keeping safe and well in these crazy times.

Was wondering if anyone in the UK can help me - I was in the middle of wedding planning and the lockdown started, thankfully I hadn't put any deposits down yet.

However, I wanted to know everyone's recommendations and advice on wedding insurance in the UK?

For anyone who has unfortunately had to cancel or reschedule (I'm so sorry this has happened =( !) - have you had a positive experience with any of the main wedding insurers in the UK.

I am planning to get married in Jamaica, I just wanted to know what I need to look for and things to not get caught out on.

Sorry for all the questions - hasn't been any weddings in my family so I am a bit clueless!

Thank you all so much x

I am also getting married in Jamaica 😎 I love it there. I am unsure of insurance where you are, but I do know a lot of insurance companies are not covering things related to covid 19. I highly suggest finding a venue that has a standard postponement and cancellation policy. For instance my resort allows me to have a one time change at NC, covers acts of god and a full refund if something like hurricanes or covid prevents the resort from doing the wedding. There were no fees to change my date, and no fees to move the room bookings. If the guests need to cancel, it is a $25 fee only. The only thing that is 100% non refundable is my photographer, but he was easy to work with to move the date. If you are looking for coverage against covid, I would rely more on the policies of the vendors and venue more than insurance companies.

Where in Jamaica are you looking to get married? Good luck planning! For up to date info On Jamaica and their restrictions, I follow Hon. Andrew Holness on Twitter.

I'm not from the UK, but I would recommend wedding insurance for a destination wedding. My husband and I had a local wedding and the only insurance we got was alcohol insurance because it was required by our venue, and the wedding insurance was optional. I would suggest you to look into a wedding planner if it's in your budget, or just talk to one about it. They'd be able to give you more information and good advice on it.

Unfortunately, most wedding insurance policies issued now will specifically exclude coverage for literally anything related to coronavirus (i.e. wedding is postponed, vendor goes out of business, loss of deposits, etc.). so if you were considering it only to protect against coronavirus risks, you're probably out of luck. It is a still a great investment to protect against all of the other unknowns though, especially if you're having a destination wedding.

Thank you! I had chosen my venue already at Pattoo Castle - as most resort has a high occupancy rate for a wedding which I didn't want my guests to be forced to stay at. I guess everyone will be looking at their policies now so it worth me sending out enquiries again! Thanks for the tip on Hon. Andrew Holness I will follow him too!

Oh Pattoo castle! I looked at that one too. Great choice! Yes the venue polices are important. However, I will say when I mentioned cancelling for my 50% refund.....well they literally told me there was no money to refund. They stand behind their refund policy, but during covid all refunds will be delayed. Unfortunately this is the reality of booking somewhere like Jamaica. The economy is dying and their people have no money, so refunds may become an issue. I’m excited for you, that castle is so awesome! Happy planning and let me know if you have questions, I am getting married in Negril too and have been planning for almost 2 years 😊
