Wedding insurance? Pros and cons.

Mr&Mrs_B_2_Be, on March 18, 2014 at 8:25 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Ladies, please help me clear my mind, or at least jave a better feeling about this.

We're from Ontario Canada and the Wedding is late August.

Our venue allows us to bring in our own alcohol, so we'll be providing it. Our reception/party may consist of 125-175 people. There will not be all kinds of drinks falling over or anything, but we'll all be having a good time. There are basically no out of town guests. The handful of out of town guests will be staying at a family members house, so no hotel to get to. There will be no teenagers. We're all in our mid to late 30's minimum. We are not providing transportation. There is a city bus stop right in front, there are plenty of taxi's and just getting a DD should be easy enough.

How many of you will be getting wedding insurance?

Should I be worried about what really happens outside of my control?

To be honest I have not looked into it or even looked into how much money it would cost.

We did not. I was willing to just roll with whatever came our way.

The alcohol issue never crossed my mind. I assumed our friends are old enough (and smart enough) to take care of themselves.

My take on wedding insurance is that it's helpful for all kinds of things besides alcohol. What if your venue goes bankrupt? Your dress is stolen? Not to be a debbie downer, but all kinds of things can happen, and for the cost of insurance, which is not a lot, you'll be covered.

    Thanks girls.

Celia, that kind of info is exactly what I was looking for. Without looking into it, I would have never thought of the bankruptcy or Dress. I mean they're extreme circumstances, but they are a possibility.

I just want to say I'm from Ontario Canada too, where abouts in Ontario are you? I'm still on the fence about wedding insurance and in the grand scheme of things it's pennies compared to what you could lose .Why don't you arrange something with Keys R Us?

I forgot natural disasters, lol.....seriously; we got so much snow this year that several of my couples couldn't get to their dresses, licenses, venues. With hurricane Irene, , the entire Jersey shore closed, and venues couldn't hold weddings even if they wanted to.

The important thing is to make sure that your coverage includes things you're worried about AND things you never thought of.

My insurance contract with wedsure was about 450$. That covers 1 mil in liability, 10k in cancellation, 3000 in gifts, 8500 for jewelry, 7500 for loss of vendor deposits, 1200 for photos, 12k for the dress, and i entered all of those amounts based on what value each one had. It doesnt cover injuries that arise from sports, bounce houses or other movement toys, abuse or attacks, cars, nuclear war, or fireworks. The deductible for the dress and jewelry is 250, and the deductible for property damage is 1k.

If I just get the 1 million in liability that my venue requires it is only $125. That covers anything happening at the venue and it covers issues that could be related to alcohol once the guests leave the premises.
