Wedding in a month and I want to change my venue.... Help

Jesarela, on September 30, 2014 at 3:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 4

Fiance and I booked our venue At the beginning of this year, can I also add that it was "my second" choice.

Just now I was having a conversation with my uncle about the dreamy venue that I wanted so much. I went on and on about it and I don't know what possessed me to check their website and look at the availability. I was in complete shock when I saw that they were no longer booked for my day. Now I'm sitting in bed wondering what I can or should do, this whole time I thought the venue was booked. My current venue is almost paid off but maybe just maybe there is someone getting married on the same day that is looking for a venue (fingers crossed). HELP I need to calm down..... I can't sleep

So you would lose all the money that you paid into your current venue? Even if you found someone to take your day, you don't have the right through the venue (at least your contract will say) to "sell your date to another bride. Why would a venue allow you to cancel and get your money back from someone that could be paying them? Most venues will have you cancel, maybe get a little back, and then resell that day and make double the profit. It honestly depends on if you have the money to do this. Did you also send out invites? Its dangerous to do this honestly, and I know it sucks... My dream venue had dates open up and I wanted to change, but we would lose over $6,000 and that was not going to happen. Having buyers remorse for wedding venues suck. I wish you the best.

Thank you for your response Kathryn. This whole ordeal started about 3 weeks ago. My venue is brand new and just opened for business about 2 months ago. Their Facebook is up and running and in all honesty It was not what I envisioned for my big day. I talked to fiancé and he has assured me that everything will turn out fine and basically told me that budget was out the window and do "what I had to do" to add character to my venue. It just makes me sad that I have to make this additional expense.

I did check their contract and it says nothing about transferring.......

I should just go to sleep and hopefully I'll wake up feeling better and thinking this is just a crazy idea.

Jesarela, you will not get your money back. First of all, venues are not likely to be sympathetic to brides who want to cancel a month prior to the wedding because they want to give their business to a competitor. Plus, they just opened for business. That's a tough time for a business, and they are not going to part with any deposits on signed contracts.

It is unthinkable to me that a venue contract does not have a cancellation clause. I'm sure it's in there. If you decide to walk away from the money you've put down on the other venue and start again with the new venue, the reality of what you did will hit you like a ton of bricks about two weeks after your wedding. Focus on making what you have beautiful. Your wedding will be amazing.

I would keep the venue you currently have..if costs isn't an issue then go ahead and change it. But you will def lose your deposit plus i'm sure you included the location and all the information for the current venue in your wedding invitations. Will you resend those withthe correct information?
