Wedding heels? Beauty is pain?

Hannah, on September 9, 2019 at 4:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
So, I’m wearing heels with my dress. When I ordered my dress, I was given the option to order the petite length and to avoid having to have it hemmed they told me I would need about a 3 1/2 inch heel. Also my fiancé LOVES heels. So I thought that would work out perfect, and I found the perfect pair of glittery gold heels, exactly the right height and everything I was looking for so my mom bought them for me.

Let me also say, I wear heels about 40% of the time. But I work in an office wear I’m sitting most of the day. So I can definitely walk in them, but I’m not necessarily used to wear them around a lot. So I’ve put my wedding heels on a couple times around the house to “break them in”, and after about 30 minutes or so, my toes on my left foot are killing me. They are closed toe and the foot bed is actually comfy it’s just my toes. 😩

So brides that are wearing heels... what are you planning to do about foot pain in heels all night? Changing for the reception? Got any tips/tricks to make the pain a little less intense? I have considered putting on a pair of flats for the reception but worry I might trip on my dress? And i want my beautiful heels to be in the pictures of the getter toss. Also (sorry tmi) I want my fiancé to be able to take me out of those heels if ya know what I mean.

So what's your plan?

Could you get a more comfy heel? I've noticed I'm way happier in heels that are platform instead of stiletto. I would look into things like high heel relief insoles, compression pads, heel spray, liners, etc. to see if you can make them more comfortable. I wore cowboy boots so I can't really speak to the wedding day but I did wear heels for the rehearsal dinner so that's what I did to make them more comfortable.

Personally I would prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Have a paid of flats or something more comfortable on stand by, but it may be that with the drinks and adrenaline you won’t notice or will be able to push through the pain.

I kind you not I had three pairs of shoes! Flat sandals for the ceremony (kept on standby during reception), dream shoes I spent a small fortune on (seriously they cost more than my dress) and wedge sneakers for the after party. My heels are extremely comfortable for heels but I was still worried with all the dancing they would start to hurt, I found it wasn’t until the last 45 to 30 minutes of the reception that they started to get uncomfortable and then I was able to just push through. The most important thing is you are comfortable. You want to have fun and be in the moment not thinking about your feet!

Mine are platform and the soles are not what hurts. I’m sure in just about any shoes they’d hurt eventually. The main problem is the toe area. We are having a Christmas wedding and I wanted closed toe cause they look more wintery. Do you know how hard it is to find gold glitter closed toe heels? lol. But the outside of my big toe hurts in them and I don’t know what to do cause I love them and want to wear them but I don’t want to be dying all night.

That might be my best bet. To just have shoes for backup and try to push through as long as I can. My shoes actually were a steal! We got them half off and they were only $20😍 I would say in terms of heels, they aren’t bad for comfort, just my toe on the one foot kills me in them.😩

Those look awesome! Is it possible if you keep wearing them around the house they could stretch a bit? It sounds like maybe they are just a touch narrow, so maybe even try then with socks for little stretches of time? So great you got them for such a great price! I’m a bit of a shoe girl, but have never owned a designer pair. I figured my wedding was as good excuse as any. I know I’ll get good use out of them, and will probably not wear my dress again 😂 so I went for it!

Possibly! I hadn’t really thought of that. They are pretty tight. But the next size up slid right off my feet so I think they are the right size. Maybe when they stretch a bit they will be better. I’m definitely going to try the socks!

I am also a bit of a shoe girl but I don’t own any designers. However until I found these, I was fully prepared to spend $200 on some Betsy Johnson’s I fell in love with😍 I say go for it! We spend ridiculous amounts on wedding dresses that we only wear once so if it’s in your budget, shoes are totally worth it!!

My heels are actually fairly comfortable, but eventually I will change out of them and put flats on during the reception. My dress did not need a hem with the heels, which means it'll be a little longer once I change to flats, but at that point no one will even notice nor do I care if it's too long!

Are you worried about tripping over it? Or will you just pick it up to walk? That’s my concern. I think if I reach the point of wanting my heels off I wouldn’t care at all if my dress hit the ground I’m just scared I’ll trip lol

That was my though! Definitely try the socks and just wearing them around! I have such a hard time finding shoes that truly fit perfectly. I’m a half size and one foot is slightly larger 😂
sometimes one that feels just a little snug will end up fitting perfectly once they get broken in, especially if the next size up was too big.

I'm not. I think once the dress is bustled and not able to free flow as much then it'll reduce the chance of tripping. I could be completely wrong though!!

Wear your gold heels for ceremony and photos then switch to an open toe block heel comfier shoe for the reception.

Beauty is pain sometimes! I am definitely prepared to be in pain by the end of the night if I wore them the entire day, so I plan to change out of them after the first dance to be honest

Yes me too! I am a 6 - 6 1/2 and I bought a pair of 6 1/2 heels last year because the 6 was so tight on my one foot but then after a couple hours of wearing them I couldn’t even walk cause they wouldn’t stay on. Now I can’t wear them at all cause they’re too loose!😩 so I definitely think I needed to get the 6. Fingers cross the socks work!!

We just had our wedding on Saturday. I wore 3 inch heels for the ceremony, and then changed into 3 inch wedge shoes before the ceremony started so I can do the first dance more comfortably. At the end of day, my toes were hurting but I didn't care anymore. I still had to have some height for the dress so I couldn't get flat shoes. It was worth it.

Thanks for this! I honestly considered getting some platform keds or something to dance in and then changing back to my heels before we leave. Lol. I just want to hear it’s worth it! I want to be beautiful and comfort is not my #1 concern - I’ve got forever to be comfortable. I just want to not be dying in my heels. Lol
