Wedding Hair with Alopecia

I've had alopecia areata my whole life, and while it's tough sometimes, I've honestly always felt fairly lucky in the baldness pattern I have, since you can't even tell when my hair is down. I've had alopecia areata my whole life, and while it's tough sometimes, I've honestly always felt fairly lucky in the baldness pattern I have, since you can't even tell when my hair is down. But I'm dreading starting wedding hair trials, for two reasons. 1) Half the hair dressers I've met with in my life have unintentionally made me feel pretty crappy by their reactions/suggestions for "cures"/inability to handle my hair...And 2) I'm worried that the only option I have is the exact way I wear my hair every day, and that just doesn't feel special or beautiful enough for the wedding. I know the disappointment will put a damper on my spirits and confidence for quite some time if nothing works.

I've tried googling options and ideas, but it seems all the results are either for those who wear wigs or just have smaller patches--I've found nothing helpful for my pattern. I'd greatly appreciate any experience, ideas/advice before I meet with a stylist (If not at least I can brace for it a little more)

Thanks!

My hair is all flipped to one side in this photo, but it shows my hairline. It's at the same height all the way around my scalpcfb_921202.jpg

Here's what it looks like on a regular daycfb_921204.jpg

I'm not a hairstylist by any means but I know a lot of amazing styles involve clip in hair extensions so maybe that's something you can ask about? That way you can have more hair to work with and spread out and choose from a few different styles? I also know teasing can go a long way and i've seen a lot of amazing styles done just with waving the hair in different areas!

Like in the first picture it looks like she had a ton of hair but it's mainly just from teasing/placing her hair in that swoop over her ear. I'm not sure if i'm making sense and i'm sorry the pictures are blurry but I hope you understand!

Btw you are very brave for your post and I hope you come back with a hairstyle you really love for your big day!

I don't have alopecia, but I do have mystery hair loss! That's what I call it because no one can figure it out. If you do extensions the clip ins can add volume and length and would probably be your best bet given they can be removed right after the wedding. Any other kind may cause damage to your hair or even make the hair loss worse. I tried a couple of glue in strips (teen tiny strands) and came to the conclusion that 1.) they were going to be expensive 2.) they were uncomfortable (when you don't have a lot of hair you can feel them) and 3.) if my real hair fell out so would they. I am going to do clip ins for our wedding for added volume. It's extra $$ but I want to feel beautiful and don't want to deal with my hair being uncooperative.

You are a great fellow, and alopecia is more of your feature, not a flaw
