Wedding Forecast

Victoria, on September 11, 2019 at 11:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Our wedding is on Saturday, September 21st. I keep checking the forecast, and it currently is calling for scattered thunderstorms during the day, showers in the evening, etc. 40% chance of rain. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any words of wisdom or encouragement? How accurate is the forecast 10 days out? So hard to not get discouraged!

10 days out is not that accurate, unless it’s consistent with your weather patterns this time of year. Here in Florida you can safely predict 90 degrees, partly sunny, chance of rain everyday from May to November and be pretty accurate. But most places aren’t like that.

I typically go camping at least once or twice a year and attend quite a few outdoor festivals, and every time I start checking the forecast as soon as I possibly can. But I do not recommend this for everyone. I always go into it knowing things can and will change, but I mark the changes to see if a certain storm speeds up or slows down. I prefer knowing how the weather is behaving so that on the dates I have an idea on how it might present. Do check on it, but don't set anything in stone until the day before, sometimes even the day of. Mother nature is a fickle creature.

It is in Tennessee. Generally, September is the driest month. Thank you for your replies!!

I live in Seattle so we always assume its going to rain over here lmao. I wouldn't count on that being accurate until your a few days away from the wedding day

It’s too soon to be worried about that. Some days they can’t get the weather right on the morning of so don’t stress get. Positive thoughts.

I don't put much stock into anything more than 3 days out. Temperature is more steady, but even then is like a 5 day max.

Yes, the venue is quite beautiful, so I'm lucky in that. I was just envisioning the ceremony portion outdoors for the past 9 months. Trying to stay positive!

Food for thought: it rained the whole week before my wedding, I was super stressed. The forecast said it was a 30% chance on the wedding day, but it actually turned out great.

It was a bit chilly and windy, but no rain Smiley smile

Michigan Bride here: I'm having an outdoor ceremony in October so we had to have this discussion about weather with everyone! We have actually been told that it may snow on our wedding day (totally possible). We have a backup option at our site, a pavillion with a woodstove, but our initial reaction was... "At least the pictures will be interesting." Lol

I think ten days out gives you an idea but at same time it can still change A LOT by the time your day comes

This was literally me last week, praying that Hurricane Dorian didn't ruin my outdoor wedding! 10 days before the wedding, it called for sunshine and 82 degrees. Then five days before it called for rain. It called for rain until literally the day before my wedding, which then turned to cloudy. I say all this to say don't trust the forecast, especially 10 days out. Also, talk to your venue to see if there is a plan B. My venue didn't call the weather forecast until the day of my wedding, which worked out because the forecast didn't change until late evening/early morning. September 21 is my mother's birthday, which is an awesome day so I will send some sunny weather juju your way!
