Wedding Flowers

Hollie, on May 24, 2019 at 11:26 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14
Is there any way to cut costs / corners on a florist without making your wedding look cheap? I am wanting white roses at my wedding but I know those will be costly. To save money we are going a cheap route on centerpieces so the only flowers I'll need is for the wedding party. Are silk flowers cheaper? I am totally lost and any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

    You have a couple options:

    1. Buy flowers in bulk from Sam's Club or Trader Joe's and DIY your own floral pieces.

    2. Buy bulk faux flowers, DIY your own pieces (honestly though I would check costs on both of these because sometimes they aren't that different in cost)

    3. Shop around for a florist and be upfront about your budget. They can suggest ways to bring costs down (like adding more filler greenery or using a less costly flower that has a similar vibe)

I originally only wanted wedding party flowers too. Full disclosure, I'm in the Milwaukee area and all my quotes from florists were around $500 for 1 bridal bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, 1 groom boutonniere, 3 groomsman boutonnieres, and 1 groomswoman corsage. I got a quote from a florist that works in faux flowers and it was about $100 less.

I am not a flower person. & when I was going to go with the whole florist shin dig I got quotes $3,000! I was like uh no! So our center pieces are going to be flowers from Hobby Lobby or Michaels Craft Store.

If you’re into DIY, try that. If not, I’d recommend somethingborrowedblooms.com

We ordered everything from Bouqs and made the centerpieces, bouquets, boutonnières, and corsages ourselves. We easily saved thousands by not hiring a florist. But it was a lot of work.

you can also look into Costco about ordering in bulk. They have great prices.

My biggest piece of money saving advice when it comes to flowers, is to just buy them wholesale and DIY bouquets, boutonnières, corsages, centerpieces, etc. It’s exponentially cheaper to go this route and there are tons of videos on YouTube that walk you through how to make each of these items step-by-step. It’s surprisingly super easy!

There are several shops on Etsy that do artificial flowers, and honestly, they are so beautiful, I can't tell they are fake. The few I've researched seem to have really good prices too.

I was quoted 8K for flowers. I said HECK NO and decided to go with sola wood flowers. Love them and they are different. Spent about $500 so far.

Look around for craft stores for sales on flowers, my center pieces are probably going to be less than $100 total because I'm doing it myself and everything was on sale.
Also you could go really simple my mother had her centerpieces as one single flower in a white vase and a nicer bouquet. A single rose is romantic, if your venue allows tea lights a few around the base of the vase would make a really romantic vibe.

If you can, look into buying for a local wholesaler or famer's market.

I ordered some sample foam flowers from a website called Ling's Moment this week (5 flowers of your choice for $4.95) , and I was really impressed with the roses. They come in a ton of colors, are $1 per flower and come in boxes of 25, and they look amazing. They also have other flower styles (I liked the roses best but that was just me), and greenery and things too. I would try them if you're up to doing some of it yourself! Maybe you can even ask your florist if they would be willing to incorporate fake flowers with your real ones if you aren't crafty.

There are lots of beautiful and realistic fake flowers out there. They can be a lot more expensive than the ones you'd find in a craft store, but still a lot cheaper than the real thing!

It might be an option to still go to a florist to arrange the silk flowers with real greenery or gypsophila to make them look more realistic. If not, there are lots of professionally arranged bouquets on sites like Etsy for great prices!

Kukka flowers! They have beautiful white rose bouquets for 1/3 of what our local florists charge!

My maid of honor gave me the idea of a one flower bouquet. So that’s what I am getting for my bridesmaids and a bigger bouquet for myself.
