Wedding flowers

Maria, on June 20, 2022 at 7:34 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
Hi everyone! My wedding is in September. I’m doing my own wedding decor using dried flowers. I purchased babies breath 6 months ago, in fear I wouldn’t be able to purchase them closer to my wedding day. Can anyone tell me why the dried babies breathe I bought have a oily substance on stems? Anyone have solutions to resolve this?

Where did you order them? It could possibly be an oil paint they used.

Purchased at hobby lobby. It’s only the stems. I’ve been storing them in my basement. They were fine up until we had a few days of hot humid weather. I hope it’s not the beginning of mold.

Oh no, that would be bad. I wonder if you can maybe put them somewhere where they won’t get molded. September is still a bit away.

You are so kind to take the time to respond Imani. Thank you for your input. Storage is an issue. I hope they are still salvageable. Otherwise, I’ll have to purchase more closer to September.

Do you have anything in/with the containers/area that you are storing them in to soak up humidity/water?

Theres all kinds of stuff you can use. Damp rid has multiple options available but those are mainly for a space (like a crawl space). Most craft stores now sell kits for drying flowers. I think it's like a silicone but you put your flowers in a tote or similar container and poor this stuff over and around it and it sucks all the moisture away.

Your welcome! I know my mom used the kit for drying flowers for both my sisters bouquets and it did really well. I know babys breath can be a little fragile so be careful adding the kit around the flowers and then removing the flowers later on.

If you're worried about mold, you could gently wipe the stems down with some diluted bleach.
