Wedding Flip Flops - Help!

Alexandra, on March 27, 2014 at 11:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 10

Hi everyone! I'm newly engaged and new to the site Smiley smile I'm getting married next year, so I have plenty of time for all the details, but I want to use that time to be thrifty and spend wisely and over long periods of time so it doesn't all hit at once. One of the things I want to do is put out a basket of flip flops for my guests at the reception. With a guest list of 220 people, I'm wondering how many I should have available and in what sizes. Anyone have any advice?

LOVE THIS IDEA!!!!!! Tired feet need a break and what's more comfortable than flops!?!? Maybe you could do a basket full for men mix the sizes 9-11(average man sizes) and one for the women 6-8. I would figure on enough for 80% of your guest and you can donate the leftovers to a charity for tax writeoff next year!!!! You can find pretty nice assorted colored flops at Dollar Tree, Family & General Dollar stores from $1 - $5.

In my opinion it would be really hard to coordinate unless you put "shoe size" on the RSVP cards. But I know that wouldn't allow you to get it done now and stagger your expenses (which I totally understand!)

I would actually take the guest list and go through it person by person, trying to estimate if they're coming, whether or not they would wear the flip flops, and what size they probably wear. What if your future in-laws all have genetically huge feet but you only get the average sizes?! I'd feel more comfortable doing that than guessing. What a fun idea!

It's going to be mostly women who use the flip flops, so I'd focus your efforts there, with a couple for the few men that might take off their dress shoes AND socks. Honestly, when I've seen this done, it's the women in high heels that lose their shoes at the end of the night, not the guys...

Go big rather than small. You can always wear a flip flop that's slightly too big. Guaranteed you'll have the xs' left at the end but the size 7-9's will be gone... I would look at your list and make some estimations... You don't have to get it down perfect for every single guest's shoe size. Not all will use them anyhow. But it's really nice for the young women in the crowd with the big heels! Their feet will love you!

I purchased flip flops in bulk from ebay. The sizes were S, M, L. They are tagged and bagged for resale so the sizes are on the shoes. If you have 220 guest coming and most of them are plus ones. I would go with maybe 110 pairs . I think the women would be the only ones to grab a pair to get out of their heels.

Thank you so much, everyone! These are all really helpful suggestions. I'll go through my list and make some guesstimations and try to focus more on the women. Smiley smile Thanks again!

I bought my flip-flops at old navy during their $1 flip flop sale. I had 180 guests and I bought 100 pairs. None were left over. I did get shoe sizes from my bridesmaids to ensure I got them flip flops that fit. I put them in baskets with sizes labeled in the washroom. They were a BIG hit! I only did them for the women as I had an October wedding and assumed the men would not care to take their shoes off.

Ohhhh they're so cute!! Did you have to go really early to get them? I'm just trying to envision going to Old Navy and buying 100 flip flops Smiley smile

I am also doing this. I bought all of mine in late June last year at Old Navy. $1/each. I employed family to buy the maximum of five at a time. I was able to buy 15 of them myself by going to two different locations. At the second location, I bought my five, spent a bunch of time in the plaza, and went back after a presumable shift change. Smiley smile Sneeeeaaakky.

I got 35 and am inviting 150-160 guests. I know the men won't touch them, and only a select few of the women will be interested. I did all neutral colors (black, brown, bronze, silver, black/white) in a variety of sizes but ensuring the most were in 7s and 8s.

I'm basically doing what Michelle did - flip flops for the women only that I bought during the $1 sale Old Navy has each summer. I bought between 2-4 pairs of each size between 5 and 9. I also got my BMs their own to make sure they would have them.

    Hello Brides,

You will need about 80-90 pairs if the wedding is not at the beach, if its at the beach men would like theirs also so if at the beach you´ll be looking at 150-180 pairs , we are attaching a good informative graphic which was taken with the averages from our past 1000 weddings served in the USA and Canada, we hope you find this interesting and helpful for your flip flops.
