Wedding favors

Becca, on August 18, 2020 at 3:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
So my wedding is September 20, 2020 and I’m having a hard time coming up with Wedding favors that are affordable.
Anyone else have that problem?

Since our guest list went down and we were planning on having cookies as it was with our dessert. We are going to be having a cookie at each place setting for our guests. We had to change some plans of course with COVID and this ended up being the best solution for us.

Wedding favors aren't required, so you can skip them if you want. Otherwise, I would recommend a favor that is edible! Is the area you're getting married in known for any food item in particular? If so, try to incorporate that item. The area I'm getting married in is known for cherries, so we're giving out mini jars of chocolate covered cherries as our favors. We found the mini jars on Amazon for cheap, and are buying the cherries at a local store. Cookies, mints, popcorn, chocolate, etc are all good options. Otherwise, check Oriental Trading Company - they have plenty of items for sale in bulk for cheap. Decks of cards may also be a good non-edible option.

It’s totally ok to skip ‘em!

If not edible they usually get tossed out. Maybe a cookie, little bag of chocolate covered almonds (if not outside)?

Fewer and fewer people give favors that are not edibles, because most, no matter how nice or cute, are deliberately left behind. Cookies, regional candies, honey, maple syrup, and nip bottles of liqueurs or hard liquor are popular. But most simply cut the favors and use the money they would have spent in the general food or treats budget. Almost no one ( but you or your parents) wants anything with your names, initials or dates. People take them if offered, then throw them out. Even Goodwill or the SalvationArmy won't take personalized things, or anything to do with liquor ( flasks or shot glasses) so you cannot give them away. Trash time. Which is a shame, for all the effort and time people put in to some favors.

We skipped favors completely, nobody missed them! Most weddings we've been to haven't had favors.

Judith brings up a good point - I wouldn't customize the favors with the date or your names at all. If you do want the date/name on it, maybe add a tag or sticker that can be removed. For example, if you did a bag of popcorn as your favor, a sticker on the bag with your customization would be totally fine. Otherwise, for things like shot glasses or decks of cards, I would keep it generic (a fun design, a fun quote that doesn't include your names/dates/picture, etc).

I agree that it is totally okay to skip them, they are definitely not a must have. We are going with a smore's kit for everyone to take home. And I got the customized labels with our names and wedding date printed at staples for $9! I got the gift bags on amazon for $6 I believe. So it was an easy way for us to put something together and not break the bank but still add a personal touch Smiley smile

Skip them and save the money for a rainy day. I've even seen edible favors left behind so save your money.

You can skip them or make them. My FMIL is making ours. She is making homemade cream cheese mints.

We did guitar picks and bookmarks (things that represent us) from oriental trading! They were pretty good priced considering.

Check out Amazon or etsy they have pretty reasonable prices. Or do something edible not only can you find edible items for cheap but not many of them will be left behind by the guests.

Favors are not really needed, but etsy has an amazing array and at various pricing. My BFF opted for this cute key with the date and a small message as her favors and its a lovely keepsake.

What's your budget? Sometimes you have to think outside the box. We purchased bulk: chapstick, travel size - hand sanitizer and travel size sunscreen, blank cloth face masks along with tote bags and are custom labeling each with our wedding logos - I think we have MAYBE $200 invested so far. which per family / couple is pretty minimal.
