Wedding Expos

Are they worth it? I am getting married in VA where I grew up, but I live in UT now, so I'd have to fly home to go. Otherwise, I don't have any plans to visit until sometime early next year to help my mom with some of the planning. There are some this Fall, but I'm not sure if it's worth a 7 hour flight just to go to one weekend and only have 1 day with family and friends. The date is mid Oct 2020, so we have some time. I could try and plan my trip home when there's a show in the Spring, but I am not sure if that is too close to the date to go to a show? By then, I imagine my mom (who's planning most of it) will have everything already taken care of, I mean she already had half of it planned 2 weeks after we got engage, she is so excited. I also thought it might be fun to go to with her and my MOH, but not if I'm just going to be overwhelmed or if it isn't worth the time. I'd rather just go home when I can and spend quality time with my family and all of my friends than to have a plan-centric vacation with just my mom and best friend. Thanks in advance!

I personally didn't think so. All I got from the wedding expo I went to was a bunch of junk emails. I mean it was okay but, not what I expected.

I think they're only worth attending if you are at the very beginning stages of planning. The first one we attended, we probably had 50% of our vendors booked. Most of the vendors at the expo were ones that I had researched on WW, social media, etc. In my experience, there's no information that you're going to find at an expo that you can't find on the vendor's website or somewhere on the Internet. Reviews are huge to me, so we knew we wouldn't be hiring anyone on the spot anyway. I also found it to be super overwhelming because every vendor is in your face trying to make a sale.

The second one we attended was purely because the MUA we knew we wanted to hire was offering a discount for those who booked at the expo. We went in, booked her, and left.

I went to two, both in the VA area. The first one was overwhelming because I was in the beginning stages. I was literally walking around collecting pamphlets and business cards. Once I started sorting through everything, it gave me an idea of what was important to me and what I wanted. I honestly got more out of the vendor pages from Wedding Wire and internet searches. It's not worth a flight home, but if you are in the area while you're here it doesn't hurt.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like I won't be missing much. I guess I'm just finally starting to feel excited about this whole wedding thing, haha.

I went to one and it felt not worth it to me. You get some freebies and you may get some ideas but you do not necessarily need to go to a bridal expo to do so.
Maybe you and your bridal party and family can go around to places like bridal shops and craft stores and what not to look around for ideas. Or spend time together browsing online for things and brainstorming.
