Wedding Events... where the hell do i find something reasonable to wear?

Mari, on April 28, 2022 at 2:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hi everyone!

So, as our wedding is approaching, we are also solidifying plans for the bridal shower, bachelorette/bachelor, and rehearsal dinner as well. My question is, what are some good (reasonably priced) websites to find outfits for these events? Finding white dresses or jumpsuits in stores has proved pretty fruitless for me, but I am hesitant to do online shopping - how do you know if it fits right or if the material is of decent quality? Any ideas or recommendations??

Please help!

Lulu's has a lot of good options! Also check out Amazon, but be sure to read the reviews first. The reviews (on any site) should give you an idea of what the quality of the item is, and whether or not it runs large/small/true to size.

I struggled with this! I hated everything I tried online! I eventually had luck at Francesca’s and found a romper and a dress I liked. They’re a little pricier but good quality.

Thank you! Lulu's is one of the online websites I've been debating on ordering from. Reviews are just so crazy because most things I've seen are about 50/50. I'll definitely check out Lulu's an amazon though - I don't know why I didn't even consider amazon when I was racking my brain haha

Lulu's has a sizing estimator, which I found super helpful! I was hesitant because I'd never bought anything from them before, but the dress I got turned out great!

I know you know this, but you dont HAVE to wear white to everything. I wore green to one shower, black to another, and black to my bachelorette party. I'd focus more on finding something cute that you feel good in. You could also wear something in your wedding colors if you want it more "on theme" but aren't finding white things you like.

I understand your hesitancy with finding quality white clothing. Not everything is lined well, and online pics are often altered. If you get white pants or shorts, they say to wear dark underwear for contrast if it's partially see-through so it looks done on purpose. With white tops, go for a nude bra or contrast. I'm tan, so any colored linen still looks more see through. Slips and shapewear also help with dresses.

But, certainly you could always wear something colored that you already feel pretty in for your bridal parties. You can save your something new for your wedding attire.

As others have mentioned, Lulu's is your best bet for some affordably priced options! I would also recommend checking out Revolve - they have a spectrum of $$-$$$$, but sometimes if you're looking diligently you can find reasonably priced options from certain brands they carry, such as Superdown. I also love shopping from DISSH and Shona Joy as they have tons of bridal appropriate styles, but this is definitely in the mid-higher price point as compared to a Lulu's.

You don't have to wear white. There seems to be a white tax on everything. If you really want white, Macy's sometimes has a line of all white clothes

You could also check places like Poshmark for reduced prices on things.

Online shopping is hit or miss. You don’t have to wear white to pre wedding events. Shop locally at places you can try on clothing such as Nordstrom Rack, Dillards, Macys, Ross, Burlington, any department store

I used to work for Lulus.com, they are a great option for bridal wear. Just a heads up though, they are petite women sized. So definitely read the reviews and it will say the item runs true to size or not.

I ordered a few white dresses from Lulus (kept two, returned two) and Eternal Ivory (kept one, returned one). Definitely use their sizing charts. The only reason I returned any of the dresses was because they were too low cut or too short. They all fit, and seemed to be great quality. I’d also recommend checking out larger department stores like Dillard’s or Macy’s as they had a lot of white dresses in stores this month for Easter/bridal showers.

I second the PP that said Poshmark. I found my Rehearsal Dinner dress on there and it’s GORGEOUS! I got it a size bigger so that I wouldn’t risk it being too tight. My seamstress that did my wedding dress alterations for a super reasonable price is taking it in right now for me.
Since it’s secondhand (scary I know, but just find a reputable person with good ratings), the cool thing is that you can pretty much look up new dresses on Google from good brands and then go see if someone is selling it at a way lower price than MSRP. That way you still get something fantastic but aren’t breaking the bank! Also, since these dresses tend to be worn once, there’s an abundance of them on Poshmark posted by brides trying to get rid of them.

ASOS is not bad for online shopping and has a really good returns policy.

Do you sew? You could buy some nice fabric and make yourself a simple dress.
