Hey guys! So my wedding date is 5/15/2021. How far in advance should I start looking for my dress?

Depends how decisive you are. I went to one appointment and got my dress 6 months ahead so I could get it altered. Right now would be a good time to get sales since companies are doing lots a sale with the stores being closed.

I would say get an idea now and began to purchase Nov or Dec 2020.

I'd say it should be purchased by Oct/Nov if not sooner. It took 5 months for my daughter's dress to come in and then the fitting appointment was a few weeks later. Who knows with Covid now how backed up places are with orders and fittings.

Now. It was always fine to order a dress a year out, but thanks to Covid, this may be the new normal at least for a while. At the bridal shop I worked at after my wedding, they said 6-8 months generally speaking for most wedding dresses but couture gowns longer.

Mine took 8 months and I was freaking out because it arrived the month before my wedding. The designers never give the shops an exact date (more like a 2-4 week time estimate), so unless you want to stress about the dress, order early. Typically, you want to start the 1st round of alterations 6-8 weeks before your wedding.

I would try on some dresses by yourself so that you can get an idea of what you want. Then, I would invite your bridesmaids to look for their dresses and also finalize a dress.

I started looking in September for a May wedding. Because of Covid and potential delays I would say a few months earlier now.

My dress took 5 months to come in, and It took me probably 2 months to find my dress. This is pre covid. I would say at least 8 months before your wedding as you will also need alterations. I felt best having it here early......... I haven’t seen it in person in 3 months! Haha

Definitely start now. Dresses are taking longer to come in than normal, and can average 5-6 months normally. You can always have a longer gap between buying it and doing fittings, but it's better to at least have it and not have to worry about it.
