How did you figure out which dress you liked best when looking online and then trying dresses on? any tips would be great.

I'm sure I'm the odd one out on this one, but I didn't really look at dresses online before shopping. I did once or twice, but I knew that it was unrealistic to find something I really liked just from a photo. I came up with a few criteria (long sleeves, A-line) and the stylist pulled dresses that she thought would work for me. Of course I went with a dress that I totally didn't think I'd like, so I'm glad that I didn't spend too much time looking online. My best advice is to go in with an open mind and try on different styles. You'll be surprised what works for you.

I looked at dresses online and thought I had found the one. When I started shopping, I ended up buying something that was completely different. I knew that it was the dress as soon as I put it on, so did everyone else that attended the fitting with me. Definitely have an open mind and try on different styles of dresses

I didn't really look online, since every time I saw a picture of a dress, there was always something I didn't really like about it. I thought for sure I was going to buy an A line dress, and I knew I didn't want a mermaid dress or ball gown. My consultant had me try on one of each shape of dress just to get an idea, and I ended up leaving with a dress I thought I didn't want: a mermaid dress.

My suggestion is to get an idea ahead of time of things you really would like to have in a dress (sleeves? Shape? Pockets? Lace? Train?), and tell your consultant about those. Try on multiple different dress shapes, even the ones you think you don't want. You'd be surprised at how many people end up buying a dress they thought they wouldn't like. Also, if you find one you mostly like, but there's a part that can be improved, ask if you're able to customize the gown. Many times, you can add a full back on the dress, or change the skirt style, or other changes that may help make it the perfect dress for you. Good luck and happy dress shopping!

I looked online a bit, but I was super unsure of what I wanted. The styles that I did like online were NOT the right dresses for me. My first dress appointment was great, she brought me styles I didn’t even think of trying. I ended up really liking fit and flare styles. On my 4th dress appointment I finally found the designer I liked, and went online to find the perfect one. Once I looked at the collection online, I knew I had found my dress. The bridal shop ordered a sample for me to try, and it was perfect.

I think looking online before any dresses are tired, may not give you the best idea. Once you know the style that you want then, online is helpful. Happy dress hunting!

I started out looking online at DB as I went there first to try on dresses. The dresses I initially thought I would like (trumpet, sheath) I did not like on me. I found out that I preferred an A-line on my body. I also realized I prefer sleeves or off-the shoulder as opposed to sleeveless or capped sleeves.

From there I looked online, did a home try-on through Cocomelody and ultimately bought a custom dress that I love! This is going to be my elopement dress...and then I found another fuller A-line for my renewal/celebration dress for our postponed event.

I say try on first, see what silhouettes, necklines, sleeve/less options you like on your body and then go from there. Cocomelody and Azazie both offer nice home-try on programs at a small fee.

I was looking at dresses online every day I swear. I even printed a few different ones out that had details I liked about each of them. I loved sleeves, a-line, and any unique details. I tried on every style there was because my FMIL and gma wanted to see everything but I'm grateful for that. Once I tried on my dress I knew for sure and didn't feel like I was missing out on anything afterwards cause I tried on basically every style in the book. I know that a lot of people say that you love one thing but in the store you choose something completely different. Well that wasn't the case for me because I got long sleeves, ball gown (will be a-line after alterations), and it has different little details that make it stand out and not super traditional. I'd say just browse a little bit and see what things you like (sleeves or no sleeves, bling, fabric type, etc.) but also be very open to trying on different styles because you really never know. Just remember to have fun!! Smiley smile

I didn't really look online before we went. I went on maybe once or twice but got discouraged. I knew what kind of silhouette I was wanting though. When my mum and I went randomly one day I tested out different styles. I tried on I think 4 different styles fell in love with the ball gown/a-line one. Then tried on like three from that style and instantly knew that it was my dress! When I went in I didn't know I was coming out with my dress, headpiece, and veil!! What I tell people is have something in mind but don't be stuck on that one style and test out different ones because you never know! Things may surprise you!! I also say have fun and enjoy the experience and don't take too many people when you go try them on!!

It was kind of easy for me. Mostly cause I knew what I did not like - no ball gown, no strapless, no sheath, no pick ups. I think after looking at what I did not like it helped me narrow down to what I did like. However ... I tried on what I thought I wanted and it looked awful on me Haha the irony.
So I tried on another style and loved it. So I do think it is important to be open minded about it just in case things turn out better on you than ya thought

I suggest you go into a physical shop and try on multiple silhouettes. You might look and see one thing you like but might not end up liking how it fits you so definitely find out for sure.

Once you have that, go ahead and find your silhouette online. I tried on so many ballgowns and then sheat and trumpet. I ended up buying a fit and flare online.

Definitely try on everything and you'll start ruling certain cuts and details out. For me comfort was paramount - I didn't want to fuss with pulling up a strapless dress, worry about how a certain detail was laying, feel like I couldn't lift my arms with off the shoulder sleeves, or fuss with a train and bustle.

Also, consider alteration costs because the small changes really start to add up. The more layers the more alterations generally cost, also beading and lace can cost more to alter and still maintain the intended look. Alteration costs alone talked me out of a couple dresses.

I did look online for dresses that I liked but when I went dress shopping I ended up buying a totally different dress. Even though I looked online for dresses I liked, I have to admit I did like going into shops and trying them on because they did not look right or I did not like them as much. Best advice is to go and try on dresses and see what fits and what you like.

I looked at dresses online and had a rough idea of what I wanted. When I went in for my appointment at the bridal shop I had an excellent person helping me. She pulled a variety of things in my budget that I told her I liked. She pulled several I mentioned I saw on the website. I liked some of them on me and hated others that I previously loved online...It's kinda funny, because the dress I picked out I absolutely hated how it looked on the website (it looked very stiff, like it could stand up on it's own) but when I saw it in person I thought it was so pretty and when I tried it on- I fell absolutely in love with it! So really, the moral of my story is don't focus too much on the exact dress online. Things look different on models with specific lighting and editing than they do on real people. Try on everything-even things you would normally say no to...just try it.

For me online shopping and in-person shopping were totally different. I mostly looked online (David's, JJ's and Azazie) to see what styles were out there and what the prices looked at the time. I considered going with something online but I'm hesitant to buy clothes I can't try on first and heard a few horror stories so that was a no for me. (Which kinda sucks because it would be cheaper).

I then did some solo window shopping and tried on different styles to see what I liked on me. One day at David's I tried on about 5-7 dresses and asked if they could be added to my profile for my actual appointment in a couple of weeks. And I hated all of them.... except one.

Just as I was walking to the dressing rooms, one caught my eye and I was intrigued by a dress I didn't see online. I LOVED it, but told myself that if I still felt that way in a couple of weeks then I knew that was The One.

I tried it on again, and even my mom could tell how much I loved my dress. Smiley heart
