Wedding dresses for the tall bride...?

Melissa, on January 13, 2015 at 6:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Hi ladies... I havent gone out dress shoping just yet but I wanted to see if I could get some suggestions before facing the problem I will have. Ya see.... I wasnt blessed to be average height.... I'm 6'3" (fiance says i'm 6'2" and I'm pretty sure i'm at least 6'4" but afraid to admit it) . Not all designers take that into thought when making these things. Does anyone know of any designers in particular that offer the ability to order in longer lengths than normal? I have done the whole "we'll just add 5" of fabric at the bottom" and it looks like crap and honestly doubles the cost of the dress in itself. I'm in Arizona, if anyone out here has any suggestions on where to go. Thanks much!!!

I have no idea but good luck. Maybe find a dress that would look nice ankle length if they can't order it on a tall size?

I'm 6' and my blue by enzoiani dress was 3" too long with the regular length. I wear flats always though.

Most dresses can be made in longer lengths. My dress (by Watters) definitely can, and they make the normal length to fit 5'10. They shouldn't just be adding fabric to the bottom but actually changing the proportions of the dress. Maybe call around bridal stores and ask

Or you could get a custom made dress. I'm not talking about a knockoff, but finding a seamstress to make one for you. That could end up costing a whole lot though.

I am 6' tall and my Allure dress was the perfect length. They offered extra length as well, only $100 extra. I think the extra length was 3"-4".

I'm pretty sure all wedding dress designers offer extra length, so I think you will be ok.

@Kathryn.. I think the dresses i've been looking at are mostly Allure. I'm very glad to know this...thanks so much!

There's no way in hell i'm settling for an ankle dress or hi-low just because of my height. lol.

@Janeen - I wear flats too Smiley smile

Maggie Sottero also offers dresses in multiple lengths.

While I am not blessed with your height, I do have a long torso so I have an idea about what you mean when you say you are looking for dresses that are not just 5 inches longer. In general, I had to steer away from anything with a clearly defined line where the waist *should* be. Then I had to keep an open mind about what the dress would look like once it was altered so that the waist/hip tapers were in the correct place.

I think u will be fine too. I know that Casablanca lets you order your dress at custom length at no extra cost, if you indeed find a dress of that designer that you like. http://casablancabridal.com/faq/

Being tall in wedding attire means less alterations!

I bough the Allure c200. I'm 6'0 and will wear 3-4 inch heels with my dress...its the perfect length without any shortening/extra length ordered.

I'm 6' tall and my Vera dress is slightly too long not overly maybe half an inch and I'm wearing flats. There was an option for extra length too but I didn't even need it!

ETA: If you are 6'3ish how tall is your FH he looks quite a bit taller than you

I love hearing about other tall brides! I love connecting with other tall women. I am 6'1 (FH is 6'4) and my Pronovias was the perfect length unaltered (though it may have been too short for you). I wore Maggie Sottero in my first wedding and I believe I ordered it in an extended length. The other girls are right; most companies make extended lengths but it will make your dress a little more expensive. Just take that into account when you set your budget. A dress with a corset back could help equalize alterations costs because the cinch to fit you and typically need fewer alterations to the bodice.

Not sure about other companies, but Alfred Angelo can add several inches for fairly cheap. My mom is 6' and her dress with the added length was plenty, and only cost $60.

Thank you all for all the suggestions and help :-)

@NewestHess...He's 6'7"ish...depending on the day. We're not sure which one of us is the one that grows and shrinks at certain times of the day. Haha
