Wedding dress

Sandra, on December 2, 2020 at 7:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
So I spent about 300$ on my dress initially. Now I’ve gone to a seamstress and I had her alter the dress to more of my liking which is sugaring out to another 300$. For me the dress has been really important. I also bought a 150$ reception dress. Is that a ridiculous amount? Would you say the wedding dress is a key piece to the wedding? So is it okay to put a little less perhaps into a cake?

Do what makes you happy! I think what you’ve spent on the dresses are completely reasonable, however everyone’s budgets are different. Spend money on what’s important to you and what’s going to make you and your partner happy- if cake won’t make you happy, spend less on it (or don’t have one at all!)

I really appreciate your comment! It’s nice to have that reassurance! You’re rightSmiley smile This pandemic has just made spending $ a little harder as I’m sure you understand! Trying to plan for a big party of sorts during this makes me nervous. I hope by our date things will have calmed down. Thanks!

Everyone has their own priorities. Most couples get a delicious wedding cake from the grocery store and call it a day.

I don't personally understand the reception dress trend. Why spend that much money on a dress and alterations to only wear it for one hour tops at the ceremony instead of the entire day when it's really the only time in your life you'll get to wear it?

The dress should be how you dream of it so spending only a couple hundred instead of 1000s on a cake wont be to bad honestly some cheaper cakes look like you spent 1000s when made right.. My original cake person was gonna do my cake for only 200 but i moved so now i gotta find a new personWedding dress 1

Well I do understand that view point my reception dress is actually a cocktail dressSmiley smile. This is actually a dress that I’d wear out on a nice date ! I’ve thought about making a cake myself.

I think what you spent overall doesn’t sound ridiculous! My friends spent $1k or more on their gowns aha. If you can afford it and that’s what is important in priorities for your day then go for it

In my experience, I didn’t get to buy a wedding dress when we eloped years ago. We had very little money. I was sad and super disappointed. Now we are planning an intimate wedding for a redo on our 25th elopement anniversary. I splurged on my attire. I don’t want to hold back anything. I don’t want to regret it again. I want it to be the 2nd best day of my life. The best day is still seeing our first born the first time. Nothing beats that moment 😉

Your dresses were extremely reasonable and not a “ridiculous” amount at all. My reception dress was $500. But, ultimately, no one will know what you spent anyway. It’s the overall aesthetics and experience that is remembered. But if you spend less on something, just make sure it doesn’t LOOK cheap.

Girl- i feel your dilemma! Everybody’s budget is different- stop overthinking it! I didn’t want to spend a huge amount of money for a dress I’d wear only once & only for a couple of hours. I had a personal budget of $500-$800 & told my fiancé this while we were out to dinner one night. He just smiled, looked at me & said “I want you to look & feel your absolute best the day we get married. I don’t care if your dress is $500. I don’t care if it’s $2000. Hell, I don’t care if it’s $5000! I want you to be happy & any dress I see you in, you’re going to be beautiful.” I found my dress at Brilliant Bridal- original price was $1700 but was marked down to $810!

I think what you spent is very reasonable (on both the dress with alterations and the reception dress). There's many gowns that cost $1000+ so you came out good

I set a budget for myself & am trying not to go above that, so I say as long as that price is working for you, you’re fine! Everyone will be taking photos of you, so you want what makes you feel beautiful & confident Smiley smile

$750 total for 2 dresses is cheap lol. Do not feel at all guilty for what you have spent on dresses. You deserve to wear what makes you feel beautiful.

Depending on the baker you choose, you can have a beautiful, and delicious cake, for fairly inexpensive.

As long as you can afford it without going into debt. Then I say soend whatever you like. I only spent about $80 on my dress and my mom wore her Navy uniform when she got married. We are frugal and refuse to spend hundreds or thousands on something to wear only once.

I agree with you, I skipped out on the reception dress. I love my dress so much I want to wear it for as long as possible.
I do have cape sleeves and I am removing them for the reception. Smiley smile so excited.

With that being said, yes, you can scale back on the cake, if that’s not so important to you. Smiley smile
