What kind of dress does someone recommend for someone who’s self-conscious about their body? I have a dress but don’t love it.

Maybe an A Line with ruching or a ballgown with tulle. Sometimes something a little form fitting with ruching can make you feel more beautiful than you expected.

I agree with Kate. And I absolutely love dresses with ruching! If you’re not able to get a new dress is there something you can add to your current dress? Maybe add a shawl or have some beading or something sewn on?

I felt the same, I had a trumpet dress that I felt subconscious in so I went with an A-line.

I shockingly learned that not every dress looks good on me.

I wanted an a-line to hide my short body and more coverage for my chest, but upon trying at bridal shops, I was like.... no way! I look even shorter! It was frustrating. I tried so many gorgeous a-line, and a few not-so-puffy-ballgown, and they all look so bad on me.
I never adored but ended up with a mermaid-sheath type, which I never thought I would look great in it. It made me look taller and defined my not-perfect-shape.
My suggestion is to try different types of dresses, even if you think you won’t look good in it.

From what I’ve read from other brides experiences, if you’re self conscious about your body, wearing a looser or non-form-fitting dress generally makes people feel less happy with how they look. Go to a bridal shop, ask the attendant what she’d recommend for your body type, try on all different styles of dresses. I think you will feel more confident about your look if you find something that is form-fitting for YOUR body in particular.

An A-line tends to be the most universally flattering silhouette. If the skirt is too poofy, you can take our a layer of crinoline. Or, you could turn into a tea length for some fun.
If you want something more fitted, a loose fit & flare can give you a sexier look without being uncomfortable.

I think it would be helpful for you to tell us what the one you have looks like so we could know what to recommend Just in case what we recommend already looks like the one you have aha so we could suggest something else.

I think the best thing to do is look for dresses with people who have your body type, when you go to the boutique, try on the different styles and don't be afraid to try something that you probably wouldn't have picked otherwise. I ended up choosing a sheath dress with a ruched side and it accentuates my body and makes me wear the dress versus the dress wearing me.
