Wedding dress uncertainty

Krista, on November 24, 2020 at 5:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Ok, so when I bought my wedding dress I love it! I could totally see myself wearing it and dancing the night away at our wine country wedding in April. Our wedding didn’t happen because of covid and all of my wedding dreams came crashing down. I know I will probably never have my big beautiful wedding I had planned. As I think and wonder about a plan B, I can’t help but wonder if my dress will have the same feel. It is a sweetheart neckline and super light. I don’t really have a plan, but it probably won’t be till next fall. I don’t want to worry about covid, but also don’t want to worry about fires being in California. I’m sure it’s too early to think about it, but I can’t help it! Is it ok I am thinking about another dress? It seems so wasteful

I, personally, would not get another dress. The choice is ultimately yours. Have you considered donating or selling your original dress?

I wouldn’t get another dress. The wounds are fresh right now so I would just hold onto it until you’re sure about your wedding plans.

Does your dress have a return policy? If so then I see no harm in looking for another dress. If it doesn't I would keep the dress

I agree with Yasmine. Don't get another dress if you're going to take a hard loss on the first.

Michelle also makes a great point. The disappointment of postponing your wedding is still fairly new, so give yourself some time to cope and recover from that.

I hear you there. Our options changed and changed and then changed again. I would say wait some more time to see. Ebay is a good option to consider an alternate. Study the designers, know what fits your body, take the measurements correctly and be flexible.

I have several dresses that I have purchased off ebay. Very reasonable. I will pick one that I want to wear and the either sell or donate the rest.

If I got another dress I would definitely donate or sell it! I just hope whenever I try it on it doesn’t bring back all these feelings of loss

Definitely still fresh (I am wondering when it will stop being so fresh?)! Any plans are long in the future so that makes sense!

It unfortunately doesn’t! I bought it over a year and a half ago and had it altered by an independent person as I live a few hundred miles from where I bought it!

I know the term “huge loss” is different for everyone, but I did get a fairly inexpensive wedding dress (under 500) so in the range of dresses it isn’t too crazy...still a loss though

That’s great! Did you go to local shops to try out your fit with different designers?

Gotcha! Well that changes things IMO. I was thinking of a dress costing $1k upwards which I would consider a huge loss, but if you're comfortable with getting a new dress then go for it! If it will make you happy and feel better then why not?

I had a general idea of how they fit and the quality that I wanted. Tadashi Shoji and Maggie Sottero were a few that I liked. Knowing your body type and what dress design looks good was key along with the sizing. Review the designer sizing and measuring yourself correctly. Better a dress too big and have it taken in. This is not my first rodeo (married before) so I did not need to have a crew with me to assess the dress. If trying on dresses at a local shop, I tried to pick an off time as they are in business and I felt a bit disingenuous trying on dresses then going someplace else.

A new dress isn’t needed. Plus your original dress has a very special story to it now. That’s how I view it. We postponed from October 2020 to October 2021 and it makes for a great love story/engagement story/ wedding story that only us Covid brides have. It’s not often that couples plan weddings during a pandemic this major. So I embraced the postponement without any sadness. Instead, I added a few extra touches to the wedding and purchased a reception dress (which was never the plan for our original date). So, look on the bright side and focus on the positives instead of negative things that are out of your control and cause unnecessary stress, like worrying about fires (I’m in Cali too and fires come with the territory of living in the best state 😉 😆 ). Best wishes!!!

I had this issue as well. Once I had it altered I loved it and it fit me like a glove.

I am not concerned about it physically fitting, but more fitting the theme/feel of whatever new plans we make
