Wedding dress train

I purchased this dress because I love the neckline and lace detail. Already defending myself because seamstress said she doesn’t know why I purchased this dress when I want to remove some/all of the train. The ladies at the bridal store when I bought it said it was no problem and no I don’t have the slightest idea how difficult it is because I’ve never done any of this.
Reasons I want it cut: I do not want someone else fussing over fixing the dress constantly, we are getting married on a mountain and taking some pictures at a waterfall, I want to look myself and I never ever pictured myself with a long train.
I understand it is beautiful, and for certain pictures would be nice? Not really my style but I can understand that. I think I definitely need to have it cut some. The second picture is it folded under to about 8 inches cut off. Would loose much of that lave appliqué design at the ends. Also considering shorter that that, to almost where the sand color underneath is, maybe a little bit over that (would have little-no lace detail showing past at that point). The seamstress does 1 and done fittings so I have to email her my decision soon. Your experience is appreciated.

First of all-WOW! Your dress is absolutely gorgeous! How about 4 inches from the bottom of the sand color underneath? That way you have the best of both worlds. You will be able to take some great pics !

That dress is gorgeous on you! You should do what you want with it. If you don't want the train, then I would have it cut short. I agree with Michelle on the 4 inches or so from the and color giving you the best of both worlds.

As a side note: "Already defending myself because seamstress said she doesn’t know why I purchased this dress when I want to remove some/all of the train." You shouldn't feel like you need to defend yourself - this decision affects no one except *you* - if I were you, I would find a different seamstress and tell that one she needs to keep her opinions to herself in future AND I would be writing a review indicating she makes comments like that.

I think it will look beautiful either way. My vote is for you to go with your gut though. It’s your dress, your day, your vision, so don’t let the seamstress (or someone else) guilt you into doing something that is a doable alteration. I imagine it may be quite expensive and timely to remove the lace, cut/hem it, and reattach the lace if you want to do the first option, but, if you have the funds and time, then they should be able to do it (if that's what you want). The second option may be less costly and timely, as not as much lace will be kept.

I also never pictured myself with a train (and mine is far longer than yours). I have my first alterations appointment tomorrow. I'll likely plan on wearing it, as is, for a few photos before the ceremony and the ceremony itself, and then it will be bustled for the rest of the day/night and photos. Do you plan on having it bustled? I'm not sure what type of bustle I'll have, but a friend of mine had hers bustled the whole time (and no one noticed!). She decided a few weeks before her wedding that she didn’t like the train, so she didn't have enough time for additional alterations.

This dress is gorgeous! I can see why you picked it. Go with your vision and don't let anyone persuade you otherwise. I think what you're asking for makes sense, but I'm not experienced with how difficult it would be. Maybe get a second and third opinion from different seamstresses?

I worked in bridal for 3.5 years. Typically, with a hem like this, the lace appliqués would be removed (they’re just tacked on at a couple key points usually) and either moved up or given back to you to use for something else- like wrapping your bouquet or for details photos, etc. Otherwise it should be a very straightforward hem- both tulle layers have a raw edge, meaning that hemming them consists of trimming them to the measured length with sharp scissors. It’s up to you when it comes to the length- whatever length you choose, I’d recommend getting a bustle, which will hold the dress up and keep it cleaner while you get to the mountain/waterfall.

Here is the dress bustled, I think she called it an “over bustle”, she said with the way my fabric is, she can’t do one under the dress. I was against a bustle but I actually like it. Still deciding what to do lol and Good luck at your appointment!! Wedding dress train 3

Such a beautiful dress! It's a pity to cut this train

I honestly do not care for the bustle. I would trim it to a little longer than your under layer, and if your seamstress has a problem with it, find another! Gorgeous dress!

I cut off my train as well. Just make sure you don’t cut too much off! I would suggest asking for a “sweep” train so it’s not up to your ankles but gently lays behind you to still make it appear like a wedding dress.

Your seamstress can use the extra fabric from the existing train to create something new. Maybe a purse/clutch?
