Wedding dress shopping while pregnant?

Alyssa, on March 27, 2018 at 6:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 10
Hey guys! My wedding is in October of this year and we already have almost everything planned, our only problem I'm running into is I found out back in January that I am pregnant. I will have the baby by September, but how should I go about dress shopping? Postponing the wedding is not an option, family members have already tried to push that and we both agree this day holds too much sentiment. I've already tried on and found my perfect dress! I just wasn't sure if I would need to go up several sizes or not. I am going to breast feed therefore I will lose weight. I would just like a few opinions!

Personally if I where you I would find a dress that has a corset, whether it's internal or external is up to you. This will help you have a little more flexibility in sizing. You are in a tough spot because you will not have a lot time to get alterations.

Congrats!! Someone else recently posted a similar situation- I suggested calling the stores and seeing if there was a sales associate that has done this a lot to be more helpful on sizing and styles. Good luck and congrats again on your bundle of joy and marriage!

Look online they have maternity wedding dresses. Like David's bridal, In this case I sure you can get sized and have an approximate with the measurements before you give birth. I would also suggest maybe an A-line dress or a princess ball gown? Make sure you order asap! the cost are higher since the wedding is approaching. I payed $300 more to get it rushed I am also getting married in October. Good Luck! keep us updated.

I'm on the same exact position as you. I freaked out at first but it's not really as difficult as you may think. I bought my dress a couple of sizes up. Once I have my daughter I'll simply have the dress taken it. Fixing a dress that's too big is easy, fixing once that's too small can be almost impossible. So just order it bigger and make sure you find a really good seamstress.

I would get an A line or corset dress. I exclusively breastfed three babies. 1, it doesn't make you lose weight, it helps your uterus shrink faster. That's a myth (darnit) 2, (should have been 1) congratulations!! 3, being able to breastfeed isn't guaranteed either. It's tough and IGT is very real and hard. I truly hope this isn't your issue. I gained weight 2 out of 3 times while exclusively breastfeeding. Be careful with dress ordering. I really hope you find something you absolutely love!!

    First off, congratulations!!

Next, remember that some doctors let you go two weeks past your due date, which could be even closer to your wedding than you’re figuring now. Recovery from birth is different for all women, and it’s even harder if you’ve had a c-section. Breastfeeding also doesn’t guarantee weight loss so I wouldn’t count on that.

Exactly what I was going to say.

That being said, wait on a dress and get something off the rack. Maybe it's not your first choice but I think it's a reasonable sacrifice for something that's even more amazing than a wedding! I was surprised at the selection of off the rack dresses needing minimal alterations at the dress shop I went to, despite it being a small local shop. You can definitely find something close to the wedding.

    Congratulations!!!

I agree A line is the way to go! If you end up having a c section you might want the looser fit as well. I didnt want to wear anything fitted after the baby for at least 2 months.

Also order up, your bust and hips will get bigger more than likely.

(I'm sorry if another variation of this comment posts!) Thanks everyone! I appreciate the advice. As for the breast feeding/weight loss topic I've heard different things from different people, including my doctor who said that you will lose weight through it so that's what I'm basing it off of! I'm very much so in love with the dress I tried therefore I am going to order it a few sizes up (it thankfully has a corset back!) And hope for the best.
