Have any of you ladies gone wedding dress shopping solo or just one more person? My mother passed away 5 years ago, no sisters and all my female cousins live back home. I'm planning on getting my wedding dress at my new city since it's easier than going back home for alterations and fittings. I have one bridesmaid that lives here in the same city but or schedules never match to go together. I feel have a second opinion is great, but I don't know if it'll be too weird going on my own. Any advice ?

I did it alone... I really enjoyed it because I didn't have to worry about someone else not liking it, I love my dress and that was that.

I went on my own. My mom lives 5 hours away and my best friend/MOH lives on the other side of the country. Honestly it was very relaxed. But I'm also very opinionated. I feel like most dresses I put on I could immediately dismiss over something small.

You would probably want someone there. Even if its a friend who is not in the wedding. You would be surprised how people would be honored to be invited. I also like the FMIL idea, she would love that!

Of course there is nothing wrong with going alone. But it helps to have someone there they truly cares. Smiley smile

I enjoyed my shopping alone. Went 3x by myself. At first I was a little sad but I really had fun.

If you end up going alone and are nervous about it, you can also talk to your consultant. A good consultant will act like a mirror to help you figure out what you like or don't like about a dress. I had one that was so fabulous that she would find tactful ways to say if a shape or color wasn't flattering, and that was even with my mom there.

I went alone and and bought it alone...don't regret it at all. I'm glad I didn't have all those opinions swirling around and it was nice to have that one aspect of planning all to myself.

I'm going by myself. I mean, I might take my MOH because she is moving here in a couple months, but I had always planned on going alone because I don't live near any bridal party members and my mom died last October and my grandma died 3.5 years ago.

I went on my own, it's great because yours is the only opinion that matters anyway.

I texted a few pictures to family or friends but in the end I made my own decision.

I went on my own twice and it was fine! I liked it better going with my MOH another time because she helped pull dresses for me and zip me up. Another time I went with my FMIL because my MOH couldn't make it and I thought I should try to include her; it was a huge let down and I should have known better than to invite my FMIL and gone alone (in my situation). It's better to go alone than bring uncaring people. All she did was talk about how amazing her daughters wedding was and imply that ours would suck by comparison. And how beautiful her daughter looked in styles I told her were unflattering on my larger body. She just sat there and looked bored and reminisced about her golden child while making disapproving faces at dresses that were in my very minimal budget. Lesson learned - nothing wrong with going alone.

I took my daughter on the very first trip out looking. If no children, perhaps a cousin or niece? I only had others join once I found my dress. It was satisfying to know I found my dress bc I loved it & not influenced by others. Good luck

I went dress shopping by myself for the first time and then with my bridesmaids the second and I can honestly say I had more fun going by myself than I did with others. There is nothing wrong with going by yourself!

I did! Mostly because I felt self conscious and didn't want to be the center of attention. One of my friends ended up texting me and came by. It was fun! The ladies in the store were super nice and I had a great time even before she got there! Nothing weird about that at all!

Hi Karla. I read your OP but not any of responses. I just wanted to let you know that I was a bride who had my Mom and BP with me at some/all of the selections/fittings. I wish I went alone or with my Dad. My Dad says very few words but the words he says are of thinking thoughts. Didn't realize that until much later in my life.

I went with one of my close friends that lived in that town. About an hour or so from my town. We had lunch and made an afternoon of it!

You can go alone or with only one person. You don't need a while softball team liked some of those girls on tv. I took my FMIL for the first trip, a friend for the second who is not a bm (but is invited to the wedding). The only problem I had is that FMIL told me I looked gorgeous in everything instead of providing any real feedback LOL. So decide if you want a cheerleader, a critic or just company and choose accordingly.

I went alone my first time. It was actually really great to get a feel for what I liked without anyone else's opinions clouding my judgement.

There is nothing wrong with going alone, and it doesn't even feel awkward when you're there. I was a little worried about being judged for being alone, but it was really great!
