Wedding Dress Shop wont disclose designer until dress is purchased?

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has come across this? I didn’t know if it’s common practice. There’s a wedding dress shop near me that won’t disclose who the designer is of a dress that I like (or any of their dresses) without the dress being purchased first. Hi I was wondering if anyone else has come across this? I didn’t know if it’s common practice. There’s a wedding dress shop near me that won’t disclose who the designer is of a dress that I like (or any of their dresses) without the dress being purchased first.

Their reasoning is that brides come in and have an idea of what designers they like, but when they try on those dresses they don’t find a good fit. So they rather you describe features you like, and they bring you things they feel match that request.
I had actually found a dress that I liked, but I was also wondering if the price was even fair on it since I didn’t know the designer. Just looking for your thoughts on this practice and if anyone else has experienced this.

It’s to keep you from price shopping and buying elsewhere. For example, my friend found a dress she loved in NY then went and bought it from a shop in NJ for a few hundred less plus no tax due to being out of state.

This is ridiculous and I would not buy my dress there.

Agreed! Paying for anything without knowing the details just sounds like trouble. Be careful with a so called 'business' like this

I just had the same experience. There is a sample dress that I love and they quoted me a price, however when I called back to ask about the designer, they said they do not disclose that info until after the dress is purchased. That is absurd to me. I would never make a large purchase like that without knowing exactly what I am buying. I think it is bad business for sure!

It is common but shady practice. Avoid any stores that require that.

I think most designers have a specific price for the dresses so that there is no such competition. The exception generally would be for the sample dresses or gowns that are out of production.
