Wedding dress regret?

Christine, on September 11, 2022 at 4:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Is wedding dress regret very common? How many of you have actually bought another dress and tried selling your old one, or ended up with an extra dress? I see so many people posting their unused dress because they ended up with something else. What made you want a different dress and feel regret? Just want to hear others experiences!

Yes! I think most people have dress regret at some point, so much so that at a time it was recommended not to look back on your pictures of you wearing the dress in the store. The dress frequently looks less-than in your pictures and it becomes easy to pick yourself/the dress apart! Also, with social media and advertising you will constantly see other dresses that you like better than the one you purchased.

While I had some dress regret (bought the dress 18 months in advance because of a floor sale) I still love my dress and will be making some alterations next year to make me love it more. It was at the max of my budget and I, for some reason, thought "I may never find another dress like this in my budget..." which is insane, because I definitely could have. lol.

It's hard when you're there in the moment and have that fear of never finding something you love like that again, but in all reality, if you keep looking (on social media or in person) you WILL find more dresses you love because there isn't 1 single dress that was designed perfectly for your taste. Proceed with caution!

Omg I bought my dress 18 months before because of a floor sale too!!!!! The dress fit perfectly and was an amazing price and everyone loved the dress when I came out in it. I see dresses pop up that I always think “what if” but trying hard not to feel that way lol

Yup, me too- every time I see a dress I even remotely like I'm like....IS THAT THE ONE? Lol. We are conditioned to think that one and only one dress will make us cry, lose our minds, etc but reality is that there are PLENTY of dresses that we love and that we would look great in.

Try and scroll past any dress advertisements and stop looking at your dress pics. It'll feel like a surprise to remember how beautiful it looks on you the next time you put it on!

I actually went to a bridal accessory sale recently and they let you bring your dress to try on again with the accessories. And when I put it back on, I remembered why I said yes in the first place and it made me feel better about it! When I first brought it home I kept asking my maid of honor if I rushed into it and should have waited since it was the only place we went but I do think it was fate that I went home with it that day!

I never thought it would be me (and thought those people that ended up buying multiple dresses due to dress regret were crazy or impulsive), but it happened to me lol I found my dream dress. I fell head over heels in love with it. But I purchased it before the pandemic. Then, nearly 3 years and 2 postponements later… I suddenly realized my dress no longer fit me! It was going to take extensive alterations that would completely change the look up the dress to make it fit. I contemplated just buying the same dress again in a larger size, but my new body size just didn’t look good in that dress any longer (it was a Willowby, and those have basically zero structure or support, and look best on super thin 20 year olds with tiny perky boobs lol). It broke my heart, but I sold my dress. However, I ended up finding a woman overseas who desperately wanted this dress, but couldn’t get it shipped to her in time for her wedding. She was absolutely ecstatic, and it made passing the dress on to her so much easier! Now I am having a dress custom-made for me, and I feel this one will fit my personality and style even better than the one I sold 🖤

Dress regret gets to the best of us. I bought mine 2.5 years before we'll be getting married (Covid 🙄), and at one point when I had gone nearly a year and a half without seeing it, I had a full blown panic attack thinking I hated my dress and wouldn't have time to get another. I remember specifically thinking about how my dress didn't fit right the last time I had tried it on (it needed alterations and the consultant didn't clip it, so of course it looked bad!). I looked up pictures of other people in the same dress on their wedding days, and that helped me calm down significantly. But I don't think I was 100% onboard until my last fitting when the dress finally looked right ON ME!

I spent a long time doubting my dress but ultimately decided that what I was really having an issue with was my body confidence as opposed to the dress itself.

I never envisioned that I would get married at my heaviest weight but I am in active recovery for binge eating disorder and it just wasn't sensible for my condition or mental health to try and lose weight for this wedding.

In the end I decided to think about what would make me feel more confident and purchased a beautiful bridal belt that my mum kindly sewed onto the dress, this gave me a much better waistline and made me feel loads better in the dress. I also focused on getting shoes I loved, doing my nails/toenails etc

I think for me I knew that the dress was 'me', I was just having a hard time with what version of 'me' I am right now. In hindsight I think my decision to stick with it and embrace myself was the right one Smiley smile

I go for my first fitting this Saturday, and I am a mess about it. SOOOO many self doubts about the style and fit and everything. I mean, HELL this is the third time around so, seriously??? I should worry about other things, but here I am scrolling the bridal dress sections in case I look horrid or hate the dress, or the fashion consultant (who I work with!!!) makes any faces at what I chose. GACK!

I went in to pick up my dress and while trying it on I was not really feeling it. Told the guy I was not in love with it and he immediately said let’s change it. I’m super thankful I was able to exchange it.. And it was a month and a half before the wedding plus I had time for alterations. Thank God
