Wedding dress price

Shannie, on December 17, 2019 at 10:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27
When do you know you've spent to much on a dress. The dress I was looking at is roughly 1200 dollars and idk it just seems like that is too much. I absolutely love this dress though. I found an additional dress I like but it's on Amazon and that makes me skeptical do to the fact that it might be to small and it might not look like the photo and so much more. I just need some assistance before I lose my mind.

Only you can decide what the right budget is for your dress! For me, I knew I wasn't willing to spend more than $800. The first dress I bought was $650 which I then returned for a dress I liked a lot more for $350. Is the dress that you like from Amazon eligible for returns?

I was only wanting to spend $800 all in because a dress is something that wasn’t really important to me. However I accidentally tried on a dress that was $1600 (stupid me) and fell in love and that’s the dress I bought. If you spend the money on the dress is there something else you have to give up? Are you willing to give it up? That’s what I asked myself before I bought the dress.

I'm not entirely sure what I'll have to give up considering a month ago I still had two years to plan my wedding now my dad is sick and I only have 10 months to plan it so its a jumbled mess in my head.

    I wouldn't buy a dress from Amazon.
$1,200 is a good price in my opinion but that really depends on what your personal budget is. If your fiance only wants you to spend $1,000 why don't you look online at used sites (Stillwhite, etc.) and see if you can find the same one used. Otherwise, i you really love it- explain that to your fiance and cut $200 somewhere else.

Deep breaths!!! It's going to be ok. You have time to find a dress - 10 months is plenty. I just went in and ordered a new dress three months out, and it should be here in January. What you need to do is take some time to decide how much you're comfortable with spending, then go to David's Bridal just to try on shapes so you can get an idea. From there you can decide if you want to order online, or you might be able to get it second hand through a site like stillwhite. But first you need to breathe and start figuring out what you like/don't like in a dress. Take your time- you have plenty to look and see even ten months out. Maybe you can even take your dad with you so it'll be more special.

Can you still video call him maybe? My future mil has some bad health issues, so we ended up having her on video conference while I was trying on dresses so she was included.

I think the bigger question is how does your dress budget fit into your total budget? What can you reasonably spend so that everything else works? Also, different brides have very different priorities. There was a poster who made a comment about her dress costing $8000, but then it seemed every other one of her posts was about DIY and cutting costs. To me, spending a ton on a dress but then cutting WAAAAY back on things like food and beverage, doesn't really seem to fit together. (For example, to me, a super expensive dress and then a cash bar would definitely leave me thinking the couple did not prioritize their guests....) At the same time, if you're talking about a truly Black Tie wedding, then a $99 wedding dress might not seem to match up with that level of formality. Daughter's wedding was about $30,000 total (not particularly extravagant, but we live in a high cost area), and she set her total budget for her dress, accessories, and alterations at $2000 max; her dream dress was $1200, alterations another $400, and her accessories about $150 -- I made her veil and she chose to wear Converse -- so she came in at $1750. Everything is relative to what you can afford and what fits your wedding vision. Good luck!

I would except he is undergoing test for his hear as well during his appt. So he can't get excited or upset or mess up his hear rhythm

I didnt want to spend more than 2,000 and I found my dress on sale for $1700. Check and see if local bridal shops are having sales on the dress you like, you could also see if anyone is selling it used!

I agree with others that only you can decide how much to spend based on your budget and priorities. But I also agree with MOB So Cal if you are spending comparatively so much more on a dress than how well you are planning to host your guests (and a pot luck isn't really hosting anyone) then that seems a little odd. Your choice of course, but you did post on a public forum asking for opinions, so in my opinion, your priorities don't match.

Each wedding budget is different. I suppose a lot depends on the situation.

Personally, I wanted to be under $500 and I managed $300 with custom sizing. That said, you will also want to consider alterations budget. My $500 alterations (had sleeves added) puts me significantly over my $500 budget but theres not much to be done there. That, however, is something to consider. If you need alterations, they can get pricey in their own right.

I didn't want to spend more than $1000, but I ended up getting a dress that's $1200. I had been saving up for years though, so looking at my budget and then looking at how much I'm going to put into my Wedding savings from now till next year, I figured it was ok to spend a few more hundred. It's really up to you and your budget.
