Wedding dress - postponed wedding

Miriam, on July 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Our wedding date was September 2020, but with Covid-19, we decided to postpone the wedding for September 2021. I bought my dress November 2019, and now I’m afraid my dress will turn yellow before the wedding.

I don't think it will turn yellow.

keep it in the garment bag or box and it should be fine. i have had my dress for two years now and it has not yellowed.

Just a suggestion, but my bestfriends mother preserved her dresses color over 20yrs by taking it to the dry cleaners atleast twice a year. Her daughter wore it on her wedding day as her ceremony dress and it looked brand new.

I think your dress will be fine if you leave it in the garment bag in a dark closet!

I was told the best way to preserve your dress before your wedding is to wrap it in a sheet and lay it flat in a dark, low traffic area (on a bed in a spare room, on a top shelf in your closet, etc)

I bought my dress pre-owned in 2019 (so it was likely made at least a year or two prior), wore it to our elopement earlier this year, and was worried about it yellowing or other issues (like if it got stained at our elopement) prior to our reception next year. I called a dress preservation specialist and she said the dress would be fine for several years, so even if we pushed our celebration back to 2022 or 2023 it wouldn't be an issue. I think it takes many years for a dress to yellow.

The specialist also said they could clean a dress of dirt and stains even if they had been sitting for a year or more. So I don't think you need to worry about your dress at all, and if any damage did happen it would probably be reversible because you are only talking years, not decades.

It is important to store your dress in a breathable garment bag it a moderately climate controlled setting (a dry closet in a house with AC is fine, it doesn't need a preservation chamber). Mine has just been in my bedroom closet with zero issues. You just don't want the dress to be a really damp environment.
