Wedding Dress Dilemma

Christine, on July 14, 2021 at 6:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
Hi brides!! So I’m sorry in advance that this is going to be somewhat of a long post, but I’m just so upset and was hoping to get some advice. My wedding was supposed to be April of 2021 and is now postponed to April 2022. So last June, I went wedding dress shopping with my mom and ended up saying yes to a dress I really was not in love with and had major dress regret. Months later, I actually ordered a different dress with the intention of selling the first one. Fast forward to when I got my dress, the second dress was too tight. I looked at the bridal consultant horrified and said I haven’t gained any weight. She didn’t say anything, went to the manager. The manager came out , not saying a word, measured me and said a gained an inch all around. The weird thing is that the first dress I ordered fit me loosely and this one was tight. She then started joking around with my mom saying that I must have gained Covid weight. I have been so devastated ever since that I cry whenever I look at this dress. I don’t want to get married in it. I feel like a moment that should have been so special was robbed from me. I mentioned this to my mom after keeping it inside for months and she got so upset. I’m truly at a loss of what to do.

You still have a lot of time until your wedding. Will the shop order the correct size for the second dress? If you didn’t gain any weight they probably wrote the measurement down incorrectly. It definitely sucks but the bright side is you have time to get a dress you love.

I'm so sorry you're feeling like this. I do feel that covid has taken so many moments of joy from us.

Did you see the measurements she originally wrote? Is the dress that size?

On the other hand, you do have plenty of time until your wedding like Ariel says, so you could either order a new one, OR you could try to lose some weight to fit into the one you have.

Please don't feel too sad. There is PLENTY of time to fix this, and you will look absolutely beautiful on your wedding day!

Yeah that's not right, regardless of the root cause of the dress issue NO ONE should laugh at you. I'm sorry but wedding planning because of this virus has been a physical and mental nightmare and no one should be insensitive to that.

I would put the dress away for a few months and practice some self care. Return to the dress in a few months and make a decision on how to move forward.

Thank you so much ladies. For reference (and not that it matters) I’m 5 feet 6 in and weight about 127 pounds. I left this place, went to dinner with my mom, and ate a salad because I felt so horrible. I came home, took my measurements, and they were a little bigger than what she has wrote. However, I had taken my measurements about a month after she did originally because I was ordering a dress online and they were what I wrote later on. I’m just so horrified at the whole experience. I cannot believe that anyone would treat a bride like that…Especially after all we have been through this year. I feel like even if I did gain like a pound, which I guess is possible, it’s not enough to be so tight you can’t breathe. The bridal consultant just stood there and pretty much offered no advice or anything. Neither did the store manager who is the one who came out and measured me. I was mortified. I’m just thankful it happened early enough I guess to fix it.
