Wedding dress didn't fit, what do i do?

Karina, on September 4, 2019 at 3:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I bought my wedding dress from David's Bridal (I know I know, but it is what it is). The dress I ordered I tried on in a sample size 8, so it was clamped 8 sizes lower. I picked up my wedding dress finally a few days ago and it is loose EVERYWHERE. At the store I tried on a sample size 0 in another dress and it fit good in the chest and waist with minor alterations needed. And this was a sample dress. The dress I received was a never before worn 0 and it was not even close to fitting on me, it's literally like a potato sack fit. What do I do in this situation? I've heard that if it's a sizing issue, David's Bridal can order a different size but since their lowest size is 0 I don't think I'd be able to do this. I did assume I would have to get alterations needed but I didn't think this much. I'd literally have to get it altered 2-3 sizes down in order for it to fit me. Is this situation normal for other size 0 women out there? Do I proceed with getting it altered? If so, do I do it at David's Bridal or elsewhere? Or do I ask for a refund? I'd also like to note I am a very tiny woman. I have a 23" waist, 5'2", and about 100lbs. At some stores I can fit up to 00. So is it safe to assume that my dress would not have fit regardless or are David's Bridal sizings just really off? As you can tell, I'm new to the wedding planning world so any help would be appreciated!

(Not size 0) I’d take it elsewhere, find an expert seamstress. David’s Bridal seems to go for more American sizing(vanity sizing), you would need a different designer with European sizing for sizing to be more accurate but since you already have your dress it’ll just need to be altered.
Did they order you a petite length at least so you wouldn’t have a costly hem? What dress is it? The bodice can usually be sized down but it depends on the dress. Taking in 2-3 sizes shouldn’t completely warp your dress but the average is 1-2 sizes so you’ll definitely pay more for alterations.

Before you start alterations, I would measure the dress and make sure it is the size it’s supposed to be. It could have been mislabeled, in which case they should order you one of the proper size. But being that you are so petite, chances are you’re going to have to have your dress taken in. Not all dresses fit the same, so fitting into one dress means nothing when it comes to fitting into a different style.

Having the same issue! The told me I was a 10, when I knew I was a 6. And now I feel terrible in my dress 😭 Even after alterations. I’m taking my dress somewhere else, so I would recommend doing the same.

My dress from David’s Bridal is a size 2 and it’s loose. I’m a size 2, but kind of a tight size 2 (which for a ball gown is a good thing xD) so I was definitely surprised to find that it was a bit too big (although mine is only about a size too big, thankfully). I’d take my to a seamstress, see if there’s anything they can do. Definitely make sure the dress is able to be taken in that much, and if not, I’d go back to David’s Bridal and see if you can exchange it for something that will either fit better, or be possible to alter down t the correct size.

Go to David's Bridal and at least ask them and see what they can/will do. If not find a local tailor/seamstress (which will cost more) and get it tailored to your size. Or... get a whole new dress Smiley sad

Thank you all for the help and suggestions, I will most likely go to David's Bridal and see if there's anything they can do before I proceed with altering. If I do alter, I'm hoping it will not affect the structure of the dress and will look normal despite how much it has to be taken in. Thank you all! I appreciate it, guys!
