Wedding Dress Confusion about sewn in bras/where to buy?

RhnCasi419, on October 24, 2014 at 6:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

As I posted all week (just so excited) I finally found my gown and purchased it this Monday. The floor sample fit so good that there are barely any alterations needed, like no hem for example. Once it was decided I was going to purchase it the consultant called over the in-house seamstress to discuss what needed to be done with the dress, like a bustle for one thing. I tried on the dress with a Victoria's Secret underwire push-up bra but this will not work for actually wearing it as the back comes down a bit too low and would show the bra band at the back ... so, I asked about what to do about this and they said they can sew in bra cups and they told me to get a bra before 1st fitting so they can sew it in. I told them I would certainly need a bra with an underwire for the lift that I will need. They said an underwire is ok, just get the bra and they will sew it in ???? Can anyone tell me how to go about this and what kind of bra I should be getting so they can sew it in?

CONT ... FYI the dress is a strapless sweetheart neckline. Also, can't they just sew in their own underwire bra cups/without me purchasing a special bra? Just so confused on how this works.

That's weird, my place is just sewing in cups to give me a little lift, it's just like the padding that they sew in. I'm guessing what they want to do is have you get a bra that they'll just cut up so they know you're comfortable with that cup size and padding. I'd probably guess a strapless one.

Another option is to get a low back bra like in the picture. I've never tried them on but depending on how low your dress goes that might work.

All the shops that I went to had their own cups to sew in. I am having cups sewn in to my dress without providing them.

Now, the cups don't have a wire in them, they are just soft cups that give support combined with the boning in the dress. Believe me, I was very apprehensive about this seeing just inserts but it worked. I am very busty and I had all the support I need. That being said, I would find any bra that has a solid cup (not an unlined). I would shoot for a demi cup as opposed to a push up so that there is less for them to deconstruct.

However, my best advice is to ask the seamstress what her suggestions are. I am sure she does this all the time and has a preferred bra/ type of bra.

When I bought my dress, the consultant said they could sew in soft cups- she didn't mention me needing to bring in a bra or anything. I plan to have the cups sewn into my dress. I would definitely ask the seamstress and hopefully she can give you a clearer idea of what they plan to do.

Yea, if you have questions, clarify with them what exactly they need. I didn't end up needing cups (my dress had a boned corset, so it was fine. And my bust is not small, I'm a 34G - but it worked. The cups actually just made my boobs seem even bigger so I opted to go without), but the seamstress had her own cups available if I had wanted them.

I do think being asked to bring in a bra is odd... especially since you don't have the dress with you to know if the bra will work with it!

Exactly Munashi I'm definitely not looking for bras until the dress comes in and I ask them more questions.

One of my friends had a seamstress who asked her to bring in a bra just so they could see the type of bra she liked. She's very busty and it mad it easier for them. The seamstress sewed in separate cups but a wide variety of them, my friend ended up having gel ones sewn in because they were the most comfortable.
