Wedding Dress Budget?

I am curious what everyone budgeted for a wedding dress. I tried on dresses this weekend and absolutely fell in LOVE with a dress! The only problem?.. sticker shock!! It is more than triple the amount I had budgeted for a dress! The sales consultant made it sound like this was an average price to pay. But then again, they are trying to sell me something so I don’t know if I really trust their judgment that it is totally normal for people to pay this much for a dress.

$1200 was my max, but I found my dress for $550.

My budget was $500 with alterations. I found a gorgeous dress for $449 and found an INCREDIBLE seamstress that only charged me $83 for sewing in cups, adding a sweetheart neckline, and hemmed the bottom just a bit. So I did go over just a tad, but absolutely nothing that breaks the bank.
