Wedding dress arrived freakishly early

Dana, on November 19, 2017 at 12:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I said "yes to the dress" this past oct 1st and was told to rush and order my dress because it takes 4-6 months for it to arrive. Well I just received a call yesterday saying my dress has been ready since 4 weeks ago. FIRST I've heard about it. When do alterations start? My wedding isn't until October 13th 2018!! Help!

Usually 5-6 weeks before the big day. Don't stress they'll keep it stored for you.

Don't worry I've had mine in my closet since July, and I get married September 2018! My seamstress recommended I come in late June next year to get started.

Mine is from an outlet store so I walked out the store with it. It'll sit in my parents' guest closet until probably May or June for my August wedding. Just make sure it's in a garment bag and somewhere light (and nothing else) can't get to it.

I bought my dress over a year in advance - I didn't mean to either, but I went to a David's Bridal and found the dress on the clearance rack - it was literally the last one - and it fit perfectly, so we bought it then and there.

And you don't need to adjust your dress until 4-6 weeks before the wedding.

Another Date Twin! I haven't started looking for mine yet. Maybe January? Can they store it for you?

I bought mine in January and have held it at my FMIL's house since February. Finally picking it up in January to start my first fitting. Wedding Wire's checklist recommends I start in February, about 2 months out. I guess I am starting a few weeks earlier, however they do have to take a lot in on my dress since it was off the rack and a few sizes bigger.

My bridal shop does 3-4 fittings, the first one can be 8-10 weeks out. Then 4 weeks out. Then 2. Then 1. But since I'm out of state from the shop they're combining them into 2. A month out then a week out.

Why would you need to rush your dress when it would have arrived in April for an October wedding? This makes no sense. What was the rush fee? They should store the dress for you.

That makes no sense that you had to rush order a dress for next October. Even if it took 6 months to arrive, it would have arrived in April which is MORE than enough time for alterations. I wouldn't start alterations until August. Why did you need to order it as a rush?

Why in the world did they rush order your dress?

They told you to rush order it?! That's odd, at least from my experience. My wedding is in October 2018, and I bought my dress a few weeks ago. The bridal boutique said nothing about having to rush order it because it would be here in July or July with a few months for alterations.

Anywho, maybe have your MOH or a local bridesmaid store it if you don't want to store it at the boutique or at your house. Least you know it's here! Smiley smile

My wedding is the day before yours and I'm planning on starting alterations 8 weeks before. I would probably be fine doing it 6 weeks, but it is beaded from head to toe and I don't want to take any chances. Just find a safe place to keep it and tell FH to keep away! ;-)

The same thing happened to me. The dress I wanted was supposed to take 20 weeks to arrive once I paid for it. Oddly enough it came in a week later. It is currently residing in my closet. I just bought a heavier garment bag so to make sure nothing is seen! As for alterations I was told to come back 5-6 weeks before the wedding.

I got my dress on Nov. 1st at David's Bridal, one of my BMs bought it for me and she is storing it at her place since she is also my make up artist so we can start doing makeup looks with the dress! They told me to come back two months before the ceremony to give them plenty of time!

I hope you didn't have to pay an extra fee for the rush order and if you did, I would go back and dispute the charge. There is no reason why it needed to be a rush order. 4 - 6 months still gave you plenty of time before your wedding, even if something went wrong and it was delayed by a couple months past that!

I'll have had mine for about a year. I won't be getting alterations until May-ish, as seamstresses are pretty rare around me

Why on earth did they tell you to rush order it if you're getting married in 11 months?
