Wedding dress alterations

Amber, on June 18, 2019 at 12:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
So my train is very very long almost 2 feet at least. My seamstress suggested cutting it because my wedding is outside in the woods, also adding a bustle to a long train like that would not only be expensive but honestly I hate the look of bustle. She’s still keeping most of the train and adding a bustle but it will not be as long as it was. But I am doing a cathedral veil so I don’t feel too bad. I have been on the fence about my train since I picked it up from DB to begin with. It’s very pretty but it is very long and hot and my wedding is 9-1 so I want to be comfy. My mom thinks it’s a bad idea to cut the train but I think I feel confident in cutting it. Anyone else have to have their train cut? I’ve been anxious since I dropped it off at seamstress

My wedding is in the woods. I won't have a train or a veil. Are you gonna have an aisle runner? Or a grassy area to walk? I am so worried about dragging my dress through the dirt 😬

Hey Amber! If you feel confident in your seamstress and know she will do a great job shortening your train, then I think that says it all. You definitely don’t want to be dragging 2ft of dress through the woods, it could even tear if it caught on something sharp. Shortening it, I feel, is the best option also!

What is the rest of your dress like?

I bought my dress as a designer sample modified aline and the train had been removed already. I was very happy with this. However, when I got to alterations the woman pointed out there was extra material under the butt that was there for the train to flow out. So I am having the extra material tucked in. But I just wanted to let you know that it may be more involved than simply trimming the train off. Other than that, I think you are making the right decision the train looks like it would be super delicate!

Your dress is beautiful! (I think I tried on the same one or something very similar at DB) I’ve seen people on here talk about a detachable train, maybe that’s something your seamstress can do? Then you can have the train for pics and the ceremony, but take it off entirely for the reception instead of bustleing it

Sounds like you're pretty confident in shortening the train, but I saw someone on here who didn't like bustles so she had a loop added so she could put her wrist through it. It looked very elegant and I'm considering it, depending on which dress I chhose.

Your dress is beautiful! I think you need to go with your gut! If you feel confident shortening it, then do you. Your veil will more than make up for the shorter train!

Thanks all. My seamstress is keeping some length so I will still have a train. It just won’t be 2 feet of excess weight lol! I also will be in a catherdral veil and I dnt mind that becuase I can take it off after pics. I am having my seamstress add a hook to my dress to bustle it up after the ceremony but it won’t be nearly as bulky as it would be with the longer train. I fell in love w this dress online and never intended to get my dress at DB ever! But I had to have this one. I just love the off the shoulder straps and I did love the train originally, however after having put the dress on many times already, I just don’t like it as much as I did! My wedding is Sept 1 so will be very hot.
    Thanks for all the input!
