Wedding DJ App

Katie, on May 20, 2011 at 9:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone has used the wedding dj app on the iphone or ipad. It's $4.99 which is better than a $1000 for a DJ but I want to know if anyone found it helpful.

Thanks

Wedding video; With what you are thinking about doing your wedding reception won't be much different. A professional wedding DJ is much more than just music.

I have to agree that a good dj is worth the money. maybe hire them for part of the wedding the most imp parts if budget is an issue. them maybe use some other means of music

No... wait. Buy the $4.99 app, and after the wedding is finished, came back and tell everyone how great it was. I'm sure you will be doing a great service to the rest of the brides. Great find, and thnks for sharing it with everyone. The only prooblem I've noticed with this sort of post, is the brides never come back and tell everyone how it went (I wonder why that is?). I hope you do share your experience.

I don't know anything about the app, but there have been several threads regarding ipod vs dj. There seem to be mixed responses. I'm on the fence.

Katie can you afford the pro. Lets face it not everyone can. Is there someone you kno that can "DJ" using the ipod? Or someone who is tech savvy with some equipment. DJs in that price range normally come with a lot of bells and whistles which personally I did not want. What was important to me was a DJ who could play the genre of music that I wanted because a lot of the songs I want can not be found on itunes. So I ended up with a club DJ who is only 500. Also look into DJ in a box. You can rent them from party rental companies.

Just ask other wedding professionals i.e Photographers, coordinators, videographers, the people who work with DJ's and have seen the ipod weddings too. They see weddings on a weekly basis. They will give they're unbiased opinion. Chuwana, 1st if you hire a wedding DJ for your reception, you pay them to play the music you want, not what they wan't to play. I was that club DJ (8 years) before I did weddings full time, very different. My 1st wedding not knowing anything about weddings was a disaster. Can you really afford your guests to leave early with the memory of a dull boring reception?

That wont happen. For one the club DJ has done weddings before secondly like I said I want a certain genre of music and typically most family gatherings in my culture the music and how it is played is very similar to a set you would hear in a club in my culture. So I had to very specific with that I want played and who i got to play it. I could not work with a person if they didnt even recognize half the artists whose music I wanted played.

    Kaitie,

It's not just the $4.99 app. It's also the music that you need to purchase... Then you still have to hire/buy/borrow a PA sound system. And the announcements... believe it or not, the MC/announcer is going to have a greater impact on your wedding than you realize.

What does a Wedding DJ really do?

    1) Plan

    2) Coordinate

    3) Setup

    4) Perform

    5) Tear-Down

It's not "just playing music" as some people believe. Playing music is less than 20% of the overall job. And yet, it is the performance that your DJ does that most of your guests will remember for years to come. They will probably forget your flowers, your cake, and the food you served. But they WILL remember whether or not they had fun.

A good DJ will create the memories on top of the setting that your florist/venue have laid down... and a good photographer will capture those memories forever.

    Best Wishes!

@mcdj Carlos DJs do a lot more than play music they do control the flow of the party however if she can't afford a good DJ she should spend half the money and get a terrible DJ??? Or should she have no music at all??? Although the app may not be the best idea but sometimes you have to do what you gotta do. If you do use the app I would designate on person to act as the "DJ" and control the iPod. Also have that person MC. Or maybe your venue has a list of DJs they worked with in the past and one of them is in your price range. It all depends on how important the music is to you and what kind of party you are having. If you are having an afternoon or early wedding you don't need to have an all out dance party and primarily will need background music.

@chuwana... Allow me to disagree with you. A bad DJ is most likely going to be better than an iPod. One of the things that I didn't mention is that the stories I've heard/read about iPods at a wedding typically include a struggle for control. Who is going to decide what song is playing next? Can you do it randomly? sure. Will your guests dance? perhaps. But will they have fun with non-stop music that is seamlessly integrated? will they be guided through the flow of the event? and most importantly... who will engage your guests and let them know what events are occurring and what's going on? For just the cost of a PA rental, you can probably get an amateur to play at your wedding. It's not something I recommend... but at least you'll have some continuity on the dance floor and ONE person in charge of music.

    Best wishes!

@chuwana You brought up great points, it would be better to just have music playing in the background, and have a close family member or friend be the spokesperson. I do NOT agree with MCDJ Carlos, I would never have a bad DJ step near my wedding. An ipod wedding will always have it's issues, but at least an ipod can not publicly humiliate & embarrass you on the microphone. It's alway been said that a DJ can make or BREAK a wedding. Watch video of what I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbC7GQcW3io&feature=player_embedded

Disagree with all of you. I've been to at least THREE ipod weddings and all turned out fine. As long as you have someone looking after the music on the ipod, I say spend you money elsewhere....Unless you're looking for everyone up on the dance floor for the whole night (and this is a wedding not a nightclub), it's not worth it.
