Wedding decor?

Brittany, on March 18, 2021 at 10:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
So I’ve decided it’s completely out of budget for a wedding planner. But the issue with that is...I have no idea what I’m doing as far as decorations and such go. Like planning, I’m good to go, but decor is a big no go for me. I’ve been planning on hiring a day of coordinator, but I’m not good when it comes to decor at all. Even in my own home. So I guess my question is...is there a package wedding planners do for this? I don’t mind DIYing decor or buying...I just don’t know where to put it. I don’t even know what I’m supposed to be buying for decor 😅 And most venues I’ve looked at don’t do set up. I’m completely lost.

Look on Thumbtack.com or Instagram for a day of coordinator in your area. No two will have the same prices or services but they will make sure your day runs smoothly.

Got it. Do they help with set up and tell me what I need to be buying as far as decor goes?

I'm doing a mix of DIY and also hired a florist. However our venue offers a Coordinator which will set up the basics such as tables settings, seating cards, gift and cards table, welcome sign, etc. The florist will handle all centerpieces, bouquets and backdrop, while my sister in law and a family member will set up some sashes on the chairs and few things the other ladies won't. I would suggest to check out pinterest and look for ideas or themes you like and try to incorporate them. See if you have a somewhat creative friend or family member willing to help you set up the day of to save money. Some girls are only getting bouquets, other also centerpieces from a florist, but many make their own and just have someone place them on the tables the day of. Is up to you how much work you want to do or pay for. Good luck!

They generally help with setup and tear down. You can certainly ask them what to get but they leave it up to whatever you like.

You really don't need that much decor to be honest. Figure out centerpieces and you're honestly good to go. As others have said, a day of coordinator will help with set up up tear down, but I don't know if they'll really help with picking out decor, although it doesn't hurt to ask when interviewing potentials coordinators.

I would look at Pinterest and start getting ideas for your venue and style. Some venues “more is less” and very little decor is needed!

To my surprise, my florist did all decor setup and tear down and worth every penny! If you have a florist, I suggest asking if this is part of their services. Totally up to you, but decor items I created our own card box, signage for cards, guest book, we did childhood photos of us on a table, “In Loving Memory” table with photos and candles of loved ones who passed, and a welcome table with hand sanitizer and masks. We did have a welcome sign. Bear in mind, I went heavy on decor so you certainly don’t need all of that.

If you have a family member or friend who is great at DIY, they can be a tremendous help. One of my bridesmaids is an interior designer and helped me design my ceremony layout, my stepmom in law created my card box from a photo I gave her and my sister handled a sign for us. Hope this helps ❤️

When you find a day of coordinator you can ask them if they have additional staff that can be hired for set up and take down. For actual decor I stay as simple as possible both for time, money, and headache. Some greenery, candles (real or led) can go a long way. But definitely go on Pinterest and wedding websites to narrow down a look that you like so you can figure out what is relatively easy to DIY, what your florist will do (if your going to have florist), and what is cheaper or just easier to rent. People put wedding decor from their weddings on Craigslist and Facebook market place too. Go to goodwills or the 99 cent store for candles and candle holders, baskets, and vases. Also anything you make and or buy, sell on Facebook market place after the wedding to recoup some of your money.

Look and see if there’s anyone in your area that does styling. I was looking at someone for renting an arch and she had a styling package. She does all the decorating and uses her own decor.
