Wedding Decor Budget

Jerriona, on January 18, 2023 at 10:06 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 5

I am wondering, on average, what everyone is doing for their decoration and then floral budget. Is $1,000 for decorations unrealistic? I am not really a DIY gal but I also cant come to terms with spending so much money on items I may never get sold.

Also, in your opinion is emerald green more of an August (summer) or September (fall) wedding color?

A lot of it depends on what you want. Cylindrical vases with floating candles will be cheaper than massive floral arrangements. Basic cotton linens are cheaper than linens with higher-quality patterned fabrics. Leaving chairs uncovered is a cheaper option than using chair covers/ bows. There's a lot of wiggle room with décor options, so I'd suggest listing out what you want, pricing all of it out, and then weighing how you'd like to allocate your budget and whether you need to consider increasing what you've allocated for floral and décor overall.

And I think emerald green is a pretty universal color that can be used in any season Smiley smile

We did a lot of DIY/ looking for sales to buy stuff. Aside from my bouquet ( I got it off Etsy and it was about $300) we probably spent about $1k on all of our other flowers/ decor.

I did all of our florals with artificial flowers over a LONG period of time (4 CoVID postponements . . . lots of time to finish making things) for a little under $1k.

I would suggest leaning into your venue and if it's already well-designed, has a great view, or taking place in nature, you don't have to add much. If you think it needs more embellishment, I would put my money into big impact. I rented DIY easy uplighting at $25 a light and added a fuchsia glow to my windowless ballroom. I also used uplighting as a backdrop for my sweetheart table and my band, instead of paying for a band stage with extra flowers. You can also reuse your ceremony decor by transferring it to the reception area. Amazon and Oriental Trading Company have good bulk buys for things like mercury glass votives. Dollar Store single vases are good, too and you can create centerpieces with clusters of single-stem grocery store flowers (no arranging!)

It's very easy to feel like you have to add more, but try to resist the urge. Eventually cease with the Pinterest and Etsy hole and go with anything free your venues provide including plain white linens, mirrored glass, table numbers, etc. I'd also skip signage, guest books, outdated chair coverings in favor of more $ for food and fresh corsages/ bouts for your loved ones. If you have a bridal party, you can use faux or fabric. They carry them for less than an hour. Another economical option may be using cloth for ceremony aisle as in ribbon ties, drapery, and the like. Some reception venues even add to ceilings. Good luck.
