Wedding date issue

Hannah, on April 8, 2020 at 5:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Has anyone ever gotten married or been to a wedding on Mothers Day? We were supposed to get married this May 9th but due to COVID -19 we had to reschedule and we picked May 9th 2021, which we just realized is Mothers Day. Our vendors have already agreed to the knew date and we already reordered the save the dates.

My wedding was on a super busy weekend. it wasn't exactly on father's day but it was the saturday of the father's day weekend along with a ton of graduations. and the problem i mainly found with that was that things were really crowded at times and i had to rent white chairs for my ceremony which the vendor told me to do early because graduations tend to rent all of them.

so for yours, i think it would be fine - it would even be cute if maybe you did a happy mothers day shout out to the mothers there

I've never been to a wedding on mother's day but I honestly don't see why it should be a HUGE problem. We don't celebrate holidays but in my opinion, mothers should be appreciated every day not just one a day a year. Hopefully your guests understand that you were limited on rescheduling with several vendors due to the virus. But if some make it a big deal, maybe just do some special shout out or additional favor for the mothers that due come.

I agree. I think it would be super cute if you did a shout out to all of the moms. Otherwise, I don't think it will be a problem.

I went to one a couple years ago and no one had any issues with it. During the ceremony, they incorporated a nice prayer for all the women to honor them on Mother’s Day. Then during the reception, the groom and his mother did their mother/son dance and invited all mother/sons onto the dance floor to join them about halfway through. I don’t think it’s required to incorporate Mother’s Day but I thought it was a sweet touch!

I don't see this as a problem. I think people will be extra understanding given that you had to change the date due to the pandemic.

I’ve been to a wedding on Mother’s Day. I don’t think it was acknowledged at all During the ceremony which I sort of appreciated for the couple as I’m sure people personally acknowledged their mothers outside of the wedding. I was unable to spend Mother’s Day with my mom but she was understanding as it was my Bff wedding. No one else seemed to have an issues.

We were originally going to be married on May 9th this year too (now we're planning on going to the courthouse once it's open again). The only issue I ran into for a Mother's Day weekend wedding was finding a florist. We had a couple different ones tell us they didn't have the capacity that weekend. I imagine it might be similar for you next year. But you have over a year and you said your vendors already agreed so I think you're fine there.
We were planning to have all the sons bring their mothers onto the dance floor at some point at the reception, to honor them for mother's day. We were also going to offer our centerpieces to mothers who wanted them, to acknowledge the day.
