Wedding dance lengths?

Bailey, on July 9, 2019 at 10:02 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
This may be an odd question, but how long are your dances (mother/son, father/daughter, etc.) going to be? My FH will definitely dance with his mom and I'm debating on doing a mother/daughter and grandfather/granddaughter dances as they are the ones walking me down the aisle. Anyway, our venue coordinator, who is also our day-of planner, reccomended that we stick to 30 second dances. I haven't seen this and am curious what you want lovely ladies are doing?

That’s what my mother recommended but I felt like 30 seconds is way too short! My mom said it’ll feel like my dad and I will be dancing forever in 30 seconds. I’m still deciding but it’s interesting that your venue coordinator said the same.

I went to my friends wedding 2 weeks ago and they did 30 second dances. It was too short. By the time they got started, they were stopping. Our first dance will be 1 minute and every other dance will be 45 seconds. At least, that is our current plan.

We just spoke to our DJ about this and he said about a minute to a minute and a half is a good amount of time. He also gave us a tip that when we feel like it's enough we can just kind of slowly stop dancing and just stand holding hands. I'm not explaining it as well as he did, but talk to your DJ about it! They may have a tip/trick to signal the end to them without it being obvious to guests.

We did 1:50 songs that we faded out and felt too long. We would suggest 1 minute to 1:30. Try dancing with your significant other in the living room to the songs to see how long they feel

I think we'll probably aim for about a minute each. Doing a practice run is a good idea, and I might even film it and see how long I can watch it without thinking it's too long haha

We are doing a minute for the father/daughter and mother/son dances. We've been to other weddings and they did the whole song and we felt that was too long and noticed people losing interest. We gave our DJ a start/stop time to fade in and out.
